STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Descent

Started by REXXXX35 pages

Uh oh... Con rolls a 1, the Twins roll a 4, the security team rolls a 2... not good.

Medraut moves into cover but decides he is not done with you just yet. He taps Marksman to get his pool to eighteen dice, and scores seven successes for 8 damage. Medraud does not shoot at you this time; instead, he lends covering fire to Medraud. Not to you, though.

Vear sends a grenade your way! You try to dodge... but with explosive ammunition and the schtick Ka-boom! at work, there's no way out. He rolls four successes... but Parry and Armor work in your favor. You take 6 damage, as does Medraut. The plasma grenade whizzes through the metal detector (comically setting it off) and goes off with a deafening boom that coats the area in napalm. You get burned as some of it splashes on your leg.

Now the mercenaries! They split their fire three ways, for eight attacks on each. With Medraud lending his brother covering fire, Medraut stays clear. Conversely, Medraud takes 12 damage. Out in the open and without support but holding a very valuable weapon, you take 8 damage. The blistering amount of firepower immediately peels marble from the walls and shatters tiling and windows.

Lastly, you after Medraut! You roll... two successes. Your lightsaber carves a chunk out of the column just above Medraut's head.

This is not going well at all, Con. Vear has switched to his main gun and intends to keep shooting at you. The Twins, at least, are not going to be able to contend with both you and the mercenaries. Medraud is pulling back to the entrance, and Medraut looks to do the same.

Well, I am not going to fight Vear, so I will follow them and keep attacking Medraut and will tab Orthodox Guard.

As they back out of this fight, the Twins dish out one last impressive display as they retreat to the door (with initiative again!), with you at their heels. They tap three schticks- Both Guns Blazing, Close Quarters Gunman, and Covering Fire. Medraut rolls seven successes and Medraud rolls nine successes. Your Guard tap removes two successes apiece... but you're in trouble. Medraut scores 9 damage to you and Medraud scores 11 damage, and with BGB tapped they double that for a grand total of 40 damage, reduced to 36 by your minimal Armor.

Just before they make the door, they round on you at pointblank and begin firing rapidly and without mercy. At first you think you can keep up with their shooting, as they put shots past you to cover each other and keep the mercenaries off their backs. But then the shots start slipping past your saber... and it is over. You take a series of pointblank shots to the chest and collapse backwards.

Medraut spits on you before the Twins duck out of the complex and into the cool night air, evading laser torrents from the mercenaries. Marble tiles explode about you and your world is nothing but hot dust and pain.

You underestimated the Twins... and maybe overestimated yourself. They handled your Master expertly, and they have done even less with you.

Damn 😐

I did underestimate them big time.

After a moment, the mercenaries stop shooting. They begin to cautiously approach you. You feel their blasters on you and hear their heavy boots plod across the marble floor. Fragmented tiles crunch under their boots.

Vear comes into your view, staring at you down the sights of his gun.

"You know I am on your side, Vear..." Con will breath out, trying to recover from the hits he's taken.

"Not from what I've been hearing," Vear says. "Working with the Syndicate! What kind of Jedi are you?"

"One that gets the job done!" Con pauses for a second "So what know, you going to arrest me?"

Vear replies by smashing you across the temple with the butt of his rifle. You go out like a light bulb that has been run over by a truck.

Yeah, this really went down the toilet...big time.

The Thief Twins are impressive specimen, it must be said. They operate together on a level that a Master and Padawan might, and have trained intensively with those pistols (and assumedly the knives).

You also made the mistake of not alerting Vear yourself that someone was coming to kill Joon. You did not have his support for that reason, as he has only heard rumors of your disloyalty to the Republic since you last met him.

But too late for that now. The Twins have escaped back to the Malik and will recount how you tried to kill them and ruined the assassination. Time grows short. The Malik will want to get on with his sacrifice of the Votive.

You come to in a bacta tank, as few do when they have been shot up so badly as you have. Before you swims the face of Vear, looking as grumpy and annoyed as it was when he smashed you.

Am I healed up? Can I get out?

No. You are in bad sorts. Your chest still hurts a great deal and you are strapped in. You think you feel handcuffs.

Of course. Is there anyone besides Vear there? I can't communicate within a Bacta tank, can I?

There is a comlink in the breath mask.

Vear taps on the glass again to make sure you are awake, then grumbles that you have a visitor. Clarion is there with him, watching calmly as she smokes through her cigarette holder. She lets the green smoke puff from her nostrils and watches you.

I will use the Comlink to address her "Hello, Master Clarion"...

She doesn't speak for a moment, taking another drag on her cigarette and letting another puff escape her nose. She idly twirls a finger. The smoke matches her movements and twists strangely.

"Con," Clarion says, a curt acknowledgement.

"It didn't quite work out as I imagined..."

"I should say not," Clarion says. She shuts her hand slowly and the smoke hangs about it in a soft green cloud. "You were blinded by your thirst for revenge. There is no doubt about that."

"And even that failed."
