[B]I was slightly disappointed with the movie, but I think I went in expecting a different type of film.

I wanted more back story on the aliens. How they got there, why they are there, what their world is like, ect.

The movie seemed to sacrifice the plot in order to "get their message" across.

Yeah, i was expecting a movie, not an experimental film. I was nervous to see this movie because i was expecting to be lectured. After several early reviews i heard that the movie didn't focus primarily on conveying a message. After seeing the movie i'm not sure how anyone thought this. The first half of the movie used the Aliens as a vehicle to comment on many social issues. I wouldn't have minded this o much had they integrated it as a natural step to the Aliens presence. The movie felt like it bypassed what would be believed to be all of the important aspects of a first contact.

Because the movie didn't answer any of the obvious questions i just couldn't enjoy the movie. I can definitely see why so many people like it though. It is a really well made movie. It was interesting to see what this Director did with such a miniscule budget.

Damn you, you ****tards and you making me almost piss myself with anticipation.

That even goes for you, Jinx. 🙁

dude...,i know. I wanted so bad for this movie to be the next great sci-fi movie. To be fair though, it's not a bad movie and for me the movie only does a few things wrong. Those few things, however, were big. I'm thinking this is a movie that will get better upon mutliple viewing because the movie has stayed with me since i saw it.

Considering this movie had a point besides action and flash, it automatically is smarter than Origins and GI Joe, by default, regardless of it turning into an action flick at the end.

Iron Man wasn't the first movie to use something like that.

Seems you built yourself up REALLY high on this movie to be something particular and it wasn't. Doesn't mean it's a bad movie on those grounds. Might as well go into The Hangover expecting a Sci-Fi action, then dissing the movie because it failed to meet that criteria.

Don't get me wrong, you're free to hate this movie, as this is all opinions and preferences, but it seems you're hating it for very trivial reasons, the accents, the video displays etc.

GIjoe wasn't supose to be rocket science but i'll tell you that district 9 wasn't all that thoughtful either, imo. save for whatever the director intentionally left out on purpose, if he even did that.

And as far as the hud part, i've seen it in other films before and in quite a few films, that i've seen, inbetween the two but for some reason i thought: ironman. The bigmech war-suit with the advanced 3d virtual reality display, with the way the holography synced with head movement in 3d style. I just thought ironman (to the T) before i thought of any of the other films i saw that had hud scenes in 'em.

and yes i expected it to be meaningful and it wasn't, but i don't think it's a bad movie because of it. i've named my reasons for not liking the movie like the aliens just not fitting in well, or rightfully in the film with how advaced a species they were, (they were a type 1 civillization), the films boring flow and slow pace, the cockroach/mantis look did nothing for me. Too typical. And the main characters' constant forced humor that failed.

Like i said his performance towards the end was good. he did the "desperate/hopeless" thing really well but overall as for as the movie goes, i just don't think it was a good movie, to me. imho. It could've at least been enjoyable. but it wasn't even that.

Just my take.

something tells me youre just mad 'cause of the way the Nigerians were portrayed... mmm

?

You mean angry? And no, that wasn't the reason why.

If anythng I'm more dissapointed with the way the aliens were protrayed. How can a type 0 civilization (us) be the overseers of a type 2 civilization? (them).

And relax, it's not that big a deal. In the end it's just a movie, one i didn't like, nonetheless it's still just a movie.

i got over it the next day.

i'm ok, lol.

i was joking. 😛

though honestly the reason why youre disappointed stems from the fact that you missed the explaination for why that happened, which was in the movie.

i had that discussion with my cousin the day we saw it. he was skeptical as well.

That was actually explained. Just like on Earth, not everyone is a genius or has the knowing to operate a tank, fly a copter, make explosives etc. etc. etc.

The vast majority of the aliens on the ship

Spoiler:
where little more than workers who "take orders", it was even mentioned that their leaders died on the ship long ago. The only one who showed any outstanding intelligence, was Christopher
.

Even his friend didn't know the difference between a broken CD Walkman and a piece of the alien tech. While the child/son did.

i didn't miss anything. i know why it happenned. Cause it wast written correctly.

They had to be smarter and stronger because they naturally were smarter and stronger. They were advanced in every way but the writer felt he had turn that logic up side down and ruin the idea with inconsistency and shoddy writing.

look, like i said, it is after all just a movie and my rightfull opinion.

Not all of them "had" to be smarter, I also don't follow the "natually smarter" point. There are people on Earth who have trouble operating a computer or balancing their check book.

Also, for all we know that ship was nothing more than a transport ship, like a bus or ferry for us. Stands to reason that everyone on any given bus or ferry isn't going to be a scientist with multiple academics under their belt.

imo the prawns are basically just ants... there's the dumb workers which the majority of them were and then there's thew few smart ones. how is that n any way inconsistent or shoddy writing? if you kill a queen ant of a hive the whole ant hive basically shuts down and loses initiative until they get a new queen.

so your sentiments dont really make any sense.

"Prawn" is considered derogatory, you racist.

youre a prawn!

My balls, your mouth. Match made in heaven.

The caste system would make some sense, considering the insect-like nature. Workers, warriors, specialized workers etc.

I didn't understand his "too typical" in regards to the insect-like look of the aliens.

Look, they're an advanced extraterrestrial civilization. They are an intelligent species not from our planet. That's what they are. Workers or not. They belong to and excelled non-human race. And you could clearly tell by their technologies like jet propulsion, mechanical engineering, biological weaponry, advanced digital technology, galactic knowledge, sh*t we only dream about, yet the film made them the lesser beings. The nonsensical aspect of that is what got to me. Ok, sure they were workers but they should've been were more capable of doing more that they were doing in that film.

And i think i've gone on a bit too long with this. I feel indifferent about the movie now, i mean i'll never watch it again, but these were my sentiments with it when and just after I wasted my time watching it, but you move on.

how are they more advanced and better then us? some of them could build spaceships. the majority of them werent smart enough to differentiate between rocket fuel and a cd player.

why is that so hard for you to comprehend?

^
So by that rational, you should be able to engineer a nuclear reactor and fly an F22, because that technology exist for humans.

They obviously were in some crisis, being stuck in their ship for 3 months and with little food, so them not 'killing all humans and conquering the planet' is reasonable.

I have no problem you not liking the movie, but you're being irrational in your points for not liking it; it's almost like your reaching for reasons for not liking it.

lol ok? harsh much. just kiddin' i know you're just fcukin around but anyway when i say typical i mean the scary alien look. That "attack of the" 50's era e.t. personage.

It's just the typical alien look. How about making them not look like every movie protrays aliens as. Imo i think there'd be nothing wrong with having them not look so grusomely disfigured, scary looking, and terribly fearful all the damn time.

so you think they should look like humans? that would be... extremely unrealistic.

The balls in mouth comment was to Ms. Marvel. But you're welcome to gobble them too. 🙂

The were insect-like, not sure how that's typical or unreasonable, considering the insect works well from a survival aspect, also the diversity of them on this planet alone. If they made them look basically human with only minor differences like ears or some facial ridges (eg Star Trek), you probably would have had a problem with that too, I would have.
