Like I said, defeating the Spectre isn't something which can be used to establish a powerlevel or impress. At least not to me.

it's not the dead any more though. we're talking actual death given form. like the grim reaper on crack.

well, an aspect of death at least.

regardless, i don't see how death [no matter the form] would have any type of hold over spectre...

i honestly get the impression johns is pulling a morrison in some sense.

like how spectre couldn't destroy anti life because life can't exist without it, etc. i dunno, im only guessing...

yeah, i'm anxious to see how he tries to justify it.

yeah. we've still got plenty of issues to go anyways...

I was under the impression that Nekron was THE personification of death, just in a different form. But I have seen a few people mention that he is only an aspect (or something) of death. Which is it?

Wait. Nekron has a scythe, and previously appeared in skeletal form. maybe he IS the closest thing to a grim reaper DC has?

he rules a hell dimension, and johns says he isn't just a villain, that he's "existence".

He was described as an aspect of Death, that aspect being that he is described as 'Death as The Ultimate Opponent'. This is compared to The Black Racer who is called 'Death as an Inevitability' and Death of The Endless who is described as "Death as the Release, as Mercy, as Compassion"

So going by that Nekron = Death of The Endless?

I mean, before hearing about Nekron I always assumed Endless Death was the personification of Death due to the Endless' nature, and the black racer etc were just aspects of her, but apparently I was wrong...

in DC, there are 3 different embodiments of death.

1.) the black racer: death as an inevitability.
2.) death of the endless: death as the release.
3.) nekron: death as a cosmic certainty/the ultimate opponent.

here's some scans confirming that, just for the lulz:

per johns, the scythe will act as nekron's own personal power battery, so to speak..

Wow. Thanks fellas. 👆

So going by that, Nekron seems to be the most powerful aspect of death.

yes, that seems to be how johns is making him out to be. though like i said before, captain atom was able to own him rather easily.

Although, even though it states those are all equal embodiments of Death, after that story was released, Gaimen denied this and stated that Death was the ultimate embodiment of the concept...

And after that Death ceased to be part of the main DCU.

Perhaps Nekron isn't just death. In the interview, it said that he is existence, the darkness. I think that the author(don't know his name) is going to the change what he really is. Either way, if he can stop Spectre in his tracks then he must be powerful. Hell, even an entity will have to face death one day.

i meant the imagery rather than any practical applications... 😛

They're using the DoV trend, where Spectre was simplified into magic. (hey, it's not like he gets his power from God, let's just call it magic and leave it at that). From the recent Geoff Johns interview, Nekron laughs at magic. Thus Nekron laughs at Spectre.

It makes perfect sense. dur
