On the other side of the coin, even though the Blackest Night title itself has been pretty good, the superfluous tie-ins have taken so much away from the story that it's hard to remember what the main premise is/was to begin with. Imo, it would have been much more enjoyable had Johns kept this event contained solely to the GL books, instead of spreading tie-ins across pretty much all of DC's ongoing titles.
BN really is a dissapointment in comparison to SCW. It overstayed its welcome a while ago.

Did anyone else noticed that at the end of GL 52, the white entity is now in control of Sinestro?
I wouldn't have minded if the first wave of tie-ins were all that was needed. I enjoyed the Superman: BN mini (lukewarm about the Batman one). But the one shot revivals (though the Power of Shazam and Phantom Stranger ones were win) and the other BN minis were really not required to further along the story and have it be felt across the DCU.

It was when it began. Then along came Countdown and FC, one sucked and the other controversial. BL became a company wide event to patch up DC's reputation.

👆
My sentiments exactly.
There are nearly 50 tie-ins (NOT including GL/GLC). WAY too much. I don't know if this is standard in these huge-crossovers (Civil War, COIE, Secret Wars etc) as this is the first time I decided to buy everything...but man, talk about overkill.
And I am the sucker who fell for it 🙁
I will not be doing the same thing with 'Brightest Day'.
Blackest Night was unfortunately hyped too much as the event of events. It wasn't possible for any event to live up to that amount of hype. SCW was a stealth hit by comparison.
However.....
I still feel that Blackest Night is awesome. I prefer it to FC and not only do I think it's one of the best events DC has put out in recent years, I think it is one of the all round best events by any comic publisher ever. Do I think it's the best event ever? No, probably not. But I think it's in the top ten or maybe twenty.
Personally I've never really liked it when GL events crossed over. I'm actually looking forward for BD to end so that I can go back to enjoying my typical GLC, SCW aside these big GL events aren't as good as the more personal space cop/academy stories in GLC.
So far for me FC kicked BN all over the park in terms of story telling, urgency & epicness.

I am still enjoying BN (and INFINITELY prefer it to FC, which at this point almost looks like an 'Elseworlds' story based on its sheer wonkiness). Just that the repetitive tie-ins are making me feel like I wasted my hard-earned dollars.
But yeah, you are right about the hype. If you go back to the beginning of this thread you will see me nearly spooging all over my keyboard talking about how much I couldn't wait for this to start. The hype was literally 2 years in the making (GL #25; 2007), which I believe would make this a first in the realm of comics in terms of buildup. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. BN has just fallen short of the awesomeness that was SCW.

Agreed.
And this is in no way, me having a go at BN. In fact, I have always been much more of a Marvel Zombie. As far as I can recollect, this is the first time where, for me, a DC event has been more interesting and the stakes much more significant than what Marvel are doing and I love Marvel.
Siege has the fall of Osborn's empire, the degredation of the Sentry, the promise of Hawkeye's return and have more or less cemeted Bucky as Cap with a cool new Avengers lineup on the horizon. Pre BN, any one of those things would make me fall out of my chair, yet I find myself more annoyed that Hal Jordan's dad hasn't shown up in BN than anything else. So Blackest Night is working for me.
Blackest Night's taken too long but my criticisms on the whole are minor.

When has there ever been a crossover where GL characters were at the forefront??

I am (was) a certified Marvel Zombie as well...but DC has really stepped up their game over the last 4 years with stories like IC, SCW and now BN.
I'm almost ashamed 😛

I'm not familiar with 'Emerald Rebirth' but apart from Zero Hour Emerald Twilight/SCW were self-contained storylines that did not extend to other 'non-GL' series (with very small exceptions).
