i'd have to say bane takes this one. i mean he's probably 36, in his prime, while sidious is getting old, and to me, bane is more powerful than sidious rather than the whole force wormhole thing.
saber, baneee, he'd push palps back and decapitate him.
force, i really think i could see bane's lightning ripping right throught sidious's, especially if bane is channeling his power through the orbalisks
both combined, probably a pretty close fight, but i still see bane walking out of it alive.

Bane got training from Freedon Nadd and Darth Revan Plus his lightning was so powerful it killed on contact, plus the Orbalisk increase his dark side power and his forcewaves could shatter bones.

even if sidious's does contend with bane's, i think i remember bane's already getting pretty crazy in his twenties...I mean i do think Sidious is powerful don't get me wrong he's on my top 5 for sure. he probably had much more knowledge than bane of course. but in my opinion, if sidious had founded the RoT, and bane had been in his place, i think he would have been more powerful, capable of more. alot of people are all uber sidious though so that's ok. i'm not particularly uber bane, infact my name is only what it is because i made it after reading DoE. i bet Bane in DoE could take sidious geez. that's probably why i see him taking him here.

Well, you're wrong. Sidious isn't just in the top 5, he's all the way at the top. Like TJ said, there are many sources that back this up. You should read this.

Its not about the page. Its about the SOURCES behind the page. You saying you saw something doesn't make it true. This forum operates with a: Page number and quotation please mentatility. You will see it throughout almost all of the debates on this forum. We don't operate on opinion, and as you can see if you read Gideon's essay, there are multiple quotes from many OUT OF UNIVERSE (very important) SOURCES that put Sidious on top.
That being said, I'm willing to listen for a case made for Bane, but make the case with quotations, because that kind of thing trumps opinion.
I have read a LOT of star wars, and as far as we, and the rest of the members around here know, there are NO quotes putting Bane on top. But you are welcome to try, just don't try to insinuate that your opinion alone can overrule canon quotes from various sources.
Give us some quotes on Bane, and we shall proceed.
I think the main argument you can give against the quotes supporting Sidious is that those are referring to him at the peak of his power AND whether or not it is specifically referring to his abilities in a duel. I tend to think that many of the quotes they give do not directly refer to fighting ability. Instead, power might be the fact that he controlled both sides of the Clone Wars. That leaves things much more open for discussion and makes more sense to me.
well i mean the back cover of DoE that i'm looking at states "If the dark side's most powerful master capture the ultimate secret, the sith will never die-and neither will darth bane. that's just one example. as far as others, i don't remember exactly where all these quotes are. Yeah his essay does say alot, but i still think in a FIGHT, bane would win. if they sat down and saw who was smarter or better at political machinations, yeah sidious would probably win, but in a straight up fight, i couldn't see old man palps coming out alive.
