Then even at the height of his power he was still an equal to an avatar of Infinity in terms of pure power.

Thanos was above Eternity while at the height of Maelstrom's power he wasn't.

The writer makes a direct comparison while you are using a feat years later to justify something that is your interpretation only.

Cosmic Armor is useless. Unless you are THE Superman (not just a Superman) and just happen to need to find, i dunno, Mandrakk. Or... nobody else?
While Infinity Gauntlet works just fine for anyone, at any given time if in its proper universe.
