The first Avatar film was infamous for causing headaches/making them worse, lol.

They should include painkillers to the tickets, I guess 😂

That would have legit been nice. I stopped to get Tylenol at a gas station after the movie, heh.

I didn't even do 3D. But I did do a larger, louder surround sound theater.

Just saw the estimated budget at $460 million. Got-Damn.

That's a mistake, man. You should see it on the big screen at least once. I mean, seeing James Cameron play on screen with $460 million doesn't happen every day.

I keep hearing US cinema tickets are always expensive af.

That's true?

It was great. In some ways actually probably better than the first.

There wasn't anything stupid like "unobtainium" and they're clearly planting some seeds for future installments.

That being said I had a headache before it even started and the loud-ass theater made it worse.

But it's great.

Yeah, it's great, absolutely no doubt.

The headache or the movie, Whirl? 😂

I don't know how they compare to other parts of the world. 🤷‍♂️

And it depends on what showing, matinee, 3D, particular venue, etc.. maybe even part of the country, I dunno.

Where're you from, Stilt?

Oh, and it's likely that we'll have to wait for Avatar 3 for Vin Diesel... sorry to disappoint you! 🙁

He heard Avatar 2 was going to be about family and had to join in! 😂

I thoroughly enjoyed this film and I'm glad that we now have a legit cinematic space opera franchise contender besides Star Wars, Star Trek, and Dune (which this was FAR better than). The characterization and character arcs are way more three dimensional and engaging here than they were in the first film,

Spoiler:
and the battle between the fatherly soldier Sully and the jingoist commander Quadritch throughout the film was ceaselessly engaging and entertaining, as was his relationship with his children and Quadritch's relationship with his crew, and both of the clan's adaptation to Pandora's cultures and wildlife
. The effects were obviously mind-blowing and the score was excellent. All of the characters, both heroes and villains, were entertaining to watch and had great arcs. What I found really amazing was the pacing, as despite the 3 hour runtime, the film's plot moves at a rather brisk speed and very rarely do you feel it's length as every scene is engaging and narratively efficient. While there are a couple of noticable genre cliches, they don't make the film boring, and whereas the first film was literally just Dances With Wolves In Space, this film has a very unique plot driven by it's engaging characters and world that makes it endlessly entertaining and definitely leaves you wanting more. I can't wait for the sequels and to see more of Sully
Spoiler:
and Quadritch
. A solid 9/10 for me and definitely a film you want to see in theaters either as a cinephile or as a blockbuster for the family. Another Cameron Classic!!!!

I agree with basically all of that, except not necessarily it being better than Dune. They're different, it's like apples and oranges.

Yeah, for all the reasons you mentioned I actually think it's better and a bit more complex than the first film. I think James Cameron bringing in other writers to flesh out the world was a very good idea, because I think this

Spoiler:
whale oil, amrita, is going to be a huge part of the coming sequels. It being an extremely lucrative fountain of youth for people on earth. It's a little bit Jupiter Ascending, actually.
That and the origin of
Spoiler:
Quaritch's son and Sigourney Weaver's original character's daughter will probably be of great interest as well. Her super powers will almost certainly be even more important as the story progresses
. So yeah, I can't wait to see what else the writers have come up with. That was my biggest complaint with Avatar (2009) was that it was such an annoyingly simple story. Now it's opened up and shit should get much more interesting.

Agree 100% Cameron delivered.

I enjoyed this, mainly cause I went into it for the adventure not deep story(as we know its mediocre) and man, Cameron got that camera and eye for photography... This sum bee-yoch is incredible to watch. 😱

Biggest IMAX or Dolby 3D screen is mandatory.

I assume he was meant for the Sam Worthington Sully character?

No doubt 😂

There's going to be some spoilers ahead, so consider yourself warned.

My praises:

-Visually this was amazing, though there were some scenes where the CGI seemed to be not as good as the first film. Could be I'm remembering the first film's CGI better than it was as it's been years

-All the water and underwater CGI was amazing though. Loved that

-A lot of the action was great, even better than the first film

-Neytiri (Jake's wife) is even more of a badass in this, liked that

My grievances:

-Story wise it was at its core a rehash of the first film, they just added water scenes to it. So that was a large gyp

-Quaritch was a good villain in the first film, but his blue-self and his blue-goons were kind of lazy replacements. Lends back to the plot being at the core the same as the first film

-The heavy teen-element was annoying at times

-Sigourney Weaver's daughter, aka "the chosen one" as it seems they're going with, was largely annoying

-Replacing the driving element of unobtainium with whale-brain-goop was lazy, they should have just stuck with the 'humans want to terraform Pandora because they've poisoned Earth and need a new home' angle' which they brushed on

Definitely needs to be watched at the theater at least once for the visuals, don't wait for the home screening.
