With comics, what makes you say "okay, that's enough"?

yep. and then Quesada's little comment about them a while back.

It's ridiculous considering most writers and artists who are worth a damn have worked with both companies before and most are actually good friends with another or at least respect each other's work enough not to be so petty about it. Geoff Johns said in an interview he thought JMS's run on Thor was one of the best series he's read in a long time.

aye.

he also said that after the whole covers thing, the chances of a crossover were looking slim, sadly.

Yeah, I personally can't see a crossover being done anytime soon after that nonsense. I think part of it comes from some resentment of the fact that, as a rule, DC is able to compete in the mainstream arena against Marvel simply by using Batman and Superman as opposed to Hulk, Spidey, Iron Man, and Wolverine. I also think that Dark Knight made Marvel a bit sour when it came to superhero movies.

As someone who enjoys both companies, I like and respect each one for what they both bring to the table and critique them both on where I think they're not doing so hot (ie. James Robinson's character rape and the drawn out crapfest that is Siege). I think competition is good for the industry, but I don't want to see one company be a douche for no apparent reason, either.

Joe Q actually said that he wanted it to be like the old days when the companies hated each other. Which isn't really a good thing...

All that will do is make readers feel like they're being pressured to choose one product over the other. I like to think the average consumer buys something from both Marvel and DC (at least based on what I've seen from my own LCS). I don't expect DC to go out of their way to promote Marvel or vice versa, but having relations between the two companies be at least somewhat amiable if not respectful is the best way to go.

aye. and that way, we get the odd crossover to go with it.

It was....that was when great stories were written (back in the 80s). Nowadays, competition is about who has the biggest cock.

Maybe I'm misreading this, but I would strongly object to the idea that comics from the 80s where better than they are now. In the last 10 years - at least from the Marvel side - we have had arguably the best runs history of half a dozen different high profile comic book icons. Bendis' DD, Brubaker's Cap, Fraction's Iron Man, Brubaker and Fraction's Iron Fist, Ennis' Punisher, Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, JMS' Thor, Pak's Incredible Hercules, Aaron's Ghost Rider. DC's had Johns Green Lantern, and Morrison's All Star Superman... and I guess some people might say Flash Rebirth and Morrison's Batman, but not me. Still, I know people like to bust the nuts of Joe Q and Dan D, but the reality of the situation is that both DC and Marvel are in the best places they have ever been really, and publishing some of the best comics they ever have.

You're more than welcome to disagree with me.

However, I have yet to see something that would strike near The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Batman: Year One, Killing Joke....etc..

The 80s may not be the best era of comics...but it certainly made an impact. Also, I'm not trying to discredit the current works. I'm satisfied with what Geoff done with GL and JSA. I can really critique Joe Q even if he is a terrible writer...he is a good salesman...which is quite helpful for Marvel.

the 80s weren't the best era for a lot of comics.

those are some pretty weak examples.

and if you really want to get in to it, Marvel takes a hell of a lot more blatant and outright mean shots at DC than vice versa.

Adamantium doesnt exist in DC.

i agree. it didnt stop DC from referencing it to build up supes and at the same time slight marvel..

the pettiness and constant trashing of marvel and one up menship of feats in the 90's got me to stop..

anyways i think the 80's were great for bats, DD,wolverine and Cap bst stories and consistencies imo..

they didn't use that to build up Superman. that's far from his most impressive showing in that actual story arc.

so a kid says his dad says it, and that's some big insult?

they didn't constantly trash marvel. at all. marvel is actually worse at it than dc has ever been.

honestly that scan seemed they were just poking fun at marvel with that comment. A harmless joke that both companies do all the time.

Yeah. Plus it was made by a kid. Granted, it was Franklin Richards, I believe, but my immediate reaction to any child speaking is "Shut up, kid, you don't know ****."

that's franklin richards? so it's a crossover between marvel and dc?

good f*ck.

No I agree with you sincerely.

Everyone who isn't the following :

Originally posted by WickedDynamite "STUPID, A COMPLETE IDIOT, LOW MINDED, AN IMBECILE, POORLY EVOLVED"[/B]

Does tend to enjoy Morisson books. And it really pisses me off that Morison aims at a market that isn't :

Originally posted by WickedDynamite "STUPID, A COMPLETE IDIOT, LOW MINDED, AN IMBECILE, POORLY EVOLVED"[/B]

I mean you couldn't expect anyone who was :

Originally posted by WickedDynamite "STUPID, A COMPLETE IDIOT, LOW MINDED, AN IMBECILE, POORLY EVOLVED"[/B]

to enjoy say 1984 or the Godfather. These books are definitely not aimed at readers who are :

Originally posted by WickedDynamite "STUPID, A COMPLETE IDIOT, LOW MINDED, AN IMBECILE, POORLY EVOLVED"[/B]

And everyone knows, anyone who reads a comic is :

Originally posted by WickedDynamite "TUPID, A COMPLETE IDIOT, LOW MINDED, AN IMBECILE, POORLY EVOLVED"[/B]

So it is very narrow minded of Morisson to produce stuff that isn't aimed at readers who are.

Originally posted by WickedDynamite "TUPID, A COMPLETE IDIOT, LOW MINDED, AN IMBECILE, POORLY EVOLVED"[/B]

because they don't exist, apparently. That's what I thought you meant any way ... and I agree with you
🙂

Its not an unexplained power its his skill...FFS. Thats one of the most ridiculous complaints i've ever heard. Super powered lungs? Cap can hurt bricks with his punches does Cap have super strength?

Please explain why my complaint is ridiculous-when BE throws a small object with enough power to kill or wound someone, he is able to do so because of his skill-thats fair enough, as its his established ability to do so. When he spits something out of his mouth, all he has going for him is lung power. Comic book or not, he isn't spitting teeth at people with enough power to kill, unless his lungs are super powered. Bullseye has only ever been peak human at most.
