Is anyone interested in Star Wars the Old Republic?

Started by Nephthys105 pages

I havn't heard anything about Guild Wars for a while now actually. Most of its Lore updates and design. From what I've seen, the GW2 pvp seems 'good'........ but I'm not really a good judge of mmo pvp action.

But saying TOR is worthless to non-fans and children is dumb Blax. >:[

3 good reviews vs 1 bad one. STFU GWfanboy!!!!!!!

(Also, lol, someone sold their beta for $200 in the comments section of the beta impressions.)

GW2 FTW!

'The Emperor is the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, you just don't know it yet.'

I have to admit, this made me laugh more than it should.

Interesting. The last guy's complaint is valid, imo, and people who are interested in pvp should prolly look at it.

It's been obvious from day 1 that TOR is designed to appeal to only one of two types of people: star wars fans who are deeply interested in the lore, and children. There is no middle ground.

So in that sense, you're literally wasting your money if you're going into the game with the intention of raping some nigga's asses with your guildmates. Guild Wars or WoW would be a better option for that; not nescesarilly a bad thing, different strokes for different folks and all that.

1. I don't agree that this guy's complaints are entirely valid except for himself and a minority group of people who want PURE PvP without main questing/side questing. Why such people would order Collector's Editions of what is essentially the MMO spiritual successor to THE definitive Star Wars RPG and then ***** because it doesn't cater entirely to "Xcore PvPers" is beyond me. That's like hiring a hooker and then bitching because she doesn't help clean up your house.

2. I don't agree with your idea that TOR is limited to just those two groups. And a large part of the TOR community agrees; it's just the few small groups of folks who have a virtual hard-on for the next best PvP game of all time that complain endlessly.

3. You may be right, that GW or WoW are better for "Xcore PvPers". I just don't think they get a right to complain when the gameplay was pretty apparent from the start. Now, I'm going to dissect this guy's review because he annoys me.

Beta tester here I just wanted to let you know Im canceling my CE pre-order and have some info inside contained as to why.

I'm not a huge grammar/punctuation Nazi, but when I see people post sentences while leaving the period and Shift key at the altar, it really irks me. There's no ten minute time limit to type these out. FFS, proofread.

I will continue to give feedback to the site if this is posted or if the xcore PvP players want more info. If you’re a PvE carebear I want this game to consume you so you stay away from any game with decent PvP. This is just the general feeling I get as a Xcore PvP player and going through the game.

So basically, he's an asshat who refers to people who don't fellate PvP as "carebears" and he's all about "xcore PvP" which I must assume either means hardcore or is pornographic PvP because this cro-magnon can't offer context behind his awesome lingo. He hopes dearly that people he doesn't like play only TOR so presumably he can dominate PvP oriented games along with his other comrades who type in rushed lingo-ridden format and are angry at other people for playing the main quests devs spent hundreds of manhours programming.

As a person who doesn't deconstruct epic online games into either "great for PvP" or "my bane and that which I seek to destroy at all costs", I don't find any great sympathy or consideration for his opinion because I realize it's so biased there's no real point.

PvP isn’t bad warzones are actually quite fun until you notice your a lvl 20 pro BH healer with a maxed out Valor rank (goes up to rank 20) . I used to be an epic PvP healer in WoW, aion, darkfall, etc. Then, you will get really tired of farming 3 instances that aren’t even designed that spectacular (lots of downtime on voidstar and imbalanced map without cloak detect).

FFS, period you fool. Also, the abbreviations and lingo only impress other people like you who apparently were bred in a lab dedicated to rearing children on text messaging and Starcraft in-game chat.

I'm glad he was an epic PvP healer in other games but how the **** is realizing you're a "lvl 20 pro BH healer with a maxed out Valor rank omfg wtf bbq" worry me as a potential player? Is Valor something to be avoided at level 20? Are BH's bad healers? Where's the context?

My real problem with this game is that There is no world PvP in this game at all.(or not until the later levels and even then highly discouraged) I truly believe this could’ve been the best part of TOR because the combat is a lot of fun and I enjoy the moves and animations but they choose instead to focus on PvE and a ton of voice over work/scripting.

Yeah, what a shame they didn't shape this MMORPG to fit a world/xcore PvP market as opposed to the people Bioware has been making games for all these years.

Dear Xcore PvPer: Read the game overview on the TOR homepage:

Together, you will battle enemies in dynamic Star Wars combat and team up with other players to overcome incredible challenges.

Join us. Your personal Star Wars saga begins in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

How hard is that to read? story-driven massively-multiplayer online game. Derp. I guess you'd have to be a soulless carebear to appreciate things line reading comprehension, punctuation, and context.

If you like world PvP and hate going through poorly scripted quests and carebear content then take a hike. I want to Lvl up and experience world PvP conflict through the game but guess what?

It is non existent until 25-30 ( this might not sound that bad but if you don’t enjoy quests your in for a headache and its essentially 3/5ths of the game)

So.... he's bitching because he has to play quests in a story-driven MMORPG before he can go balls-to-the-wall in PvP? Did I miss the advertisement where Bioware, renowned maker of RPGs, stated that they were going to make this an "out-of-the-gate PvP game"?

No wait, I didn't. This guy's talking out of his ass.

ou cant lvl in warzones btw it takes EONS! YOU MUST DO TONS OF LAME QUESTS IN ORDER TO LVL UP (the class quests can be alright but thats it and you gotta do more than your class quest to lvl up effectively a LOT more). A slap in the face to the Xcore PvPer. (PvErs might be happy I personally didn’t find the questing to be fun especially as a healer)

OMG, you have to do a LOT OF QUESTS IN AN MMORPG? NO WAI! I thought you only did that in Carebears Online! We've all been lied to!

No, a slap in the face is seeing that "Xcore PvPers" got beta invites just so they can ***** about how the game isn't centered solely on their interests while folks like us who actually appreciate Bioware's hard work get to witness the atrocity borne of their inability to hammer complete sentences together without sounding like ignorant trolls.

This is my honest opinion and many also agree with it in testing (except the carebears of course they are rampant) I hope you kiddies have fun in your theme park this will not kill WoW either btw I almost want to play it again after this just so I can experience some more world PvP.

There is one period in this entire paragraph. Every time someone posts like this, God kills an English teacher.

I’ll be laughing and saving 150 dollars and putting it toward an MMO gameplay style I actually support. Story and massive multiplayer games are a joke this could’ve been WAR in space but better. Instead, its a watered down version of WoW with a lot of cheesy story added in that still doesn’t mean anything and it feels like the quests are mostly just there to grind through to lvl up.

Anyway I’m not a TOR hater I just love world PvP and there isn’t enough of it for me to want to play at launch.

Could have fooled me.

😂

You should go post that in the thread. I would love to see his reply to such ownage.

There's a thread for it on TOR?

Nah, I thought it was in a thread on Betacake... Although it appears I am wrong.

If I could be bothered to have an account on Betacake, I'd link him to this thread and let the rage begin.

Just imagine the hastily hammered out, abbreviated replies!

I can't believe I never noticed this before:

Skill Tree Calculator.

You can play around with all the classes skill trees and get a good look at character evolution. I'm going to **** around with the Agent tree!

Odd, it doesn't work in Chrome when you go to left click to add points.

Did you start at the bottom?

I made that mistake.

Ah, it is an odd skill tree format. I got it now, thanks.

Anybody want to explain to me this hullabaloo I'm hearing about Light side Sith?

Anybody want to explain to me this hullabaloo I'm hearing about Light side Sith?
Spoiler:
There are those who feel that such a thing is counterinuitive, oxymoronic, contradictory, etc.

Darth Vectivus is an example of a light sided Sith... I'll be honest, it really doesn't make a ton of sense but I see why they allow it.

Well, a Light-Sided Sith IS a contradiction (in theory, no more so than Dark Jedi, but in practice the point is that people go down rather than up), but my understanding is that that's not what you would actually be in TOR. I think if you make a moral choice to be NOT evil (and this is done before you've committed), then what you would end up being is... well, not really a Sith.

And still working for the wrong side, from what I understand, which seems a little off, but I don;t know where the plot goes with it.

As someone who has played this game for two months you couldnt be more wrong. Thats exactly what TOR allows you to do. You can be trained as a sith and when your training is complete, start making moral and ethical choices to become a light side version of a sith.

My understanding is that its the same thing as most Bioware games. You have Dark or Light side dialogue choices, and which one you pick can give you 'points'.

Well if that is really the way they've played it then it is indeed pretty silly. Being a Sith pretty much by definition involves being on the Dark Side.
