Guess the SNES version spoiled me when it came to easiness. lol 2 is still my favorite out of the original three games, though.
I still have MK1, MK2 and UMK3 for the SNES and 2 is my favourite as well. It has an acceptable number of ninjas before it descends into total anarchy, has cool and easy to do fatalities (been trying to get them all down and working recently, as well as the moves). Reptile's 'Head Snack' Fatality, Kung Lao's 'Body Slice' and Johnny Cage's 'Torso Separation' are probably my three favourites.
UMK3 feels a bit disappointing to me, the run control totally throws me because I preferred that as 'block'. There are just too many ninja rip-offs in it and it cheapens the two original ones, not to mention masked and unmasked Sub-Zero! The Fatality time has been reduced making it harder to get in position to do them (although the cheat code gets around this). I liked the concept of some new characters like Stryker, Nightwolf, Kabal and Sindel - although these are marginalised by the ninjas. Kano came back which was good, with a better look from MK1, IMO.
I didn't really like the combo system, just promotes button bashing and no Animalities for the SNES verson is frustrating (would have took that over Babalities anyday). Another little nit-pick is no announcer voice for the characters - honestly, how can you feel cool picking Reptile without the iconic announcement? 😄
