The characters knowing exactly what caused the virus/outbreak allows for the [albeit slim] possibility of a cure, which subsequently allows for a proverbial light at the end of the tunnel(ie. hope.)
Kirkman has made it very clear that there is no light in TWD-verse. There is only death or hard-earned survival.

Does anyone here think that those Terminus folk are the ones who took Beth away? And the meat that they're cooking when Glenn and Maggie's group shows up is Beth? That is assuming they are really cannibals to begin with.
It would be hilarious if that was the case though. Almost like when the Big Bossman fed Al Snow his own dog in a WWF airing.
Spoiler:
Well that was uneventful finale. Fans have been hyping this finale up saying it would be TWDs Red Wedding. I expected a cannibal massacre where Daryl, Glen, and Beth would get cannibalized. Something big. They even got out scott-free with the rapist gang Daryl rolled with, and that scene felt like at least one of them would die. Nothing happened. Not ONE good guy died, and then they ended the episode with Ricks semi-corny, look at the camera, quote. I liked the episode, but I expected more after what happen with Lizzie and Mika a few episodes ago. That ended up being the best episode of the season.
