I think you underestimate the importance of a goalie. A good goalkeeper can be very much involved in the game and even cause chances.

When it comes to goals, yes, this has been a disappointing World Cup, except for the Portugal - North Korea game or Germany's 4-0 and 4-1 wins over Australia and England. Soccer is actually the most played sport in America, despite its unpopularity in the big leagues. In my day I've seen many games from little league soccer, to high school, college, Mexican Futbol, and even games in the American Major League Soccer. Comparing American football (overall) to soccer, regardless of league or level, points/goals in American football are far more frequent.
i remember in high school my canadian health/math class teacher was : hey, jay. did you watch the soccer game yesterday? mexico lost to us white boys, america. whats up with that?
