Football is only boring to watch to those who don't understand it. Again, not saying football is better than American football or rugby.I mean, I'm not saying I know a lot about AF, but I gather most people watch it for the excitement of seeing big guys tackle each other and running really fast with a ball in their hand so they can make a touchdown. Football requires much more finesse and strategical and creative thinking (on the players part) and to the beholder with an eye for the sport, midfield play that probably will be considered boring by most people that usually never watch football can be exciting.

My one real beef with soccer is that its such a low-scoring game, with a lot of back-and-forth before someone finally, eventually puts a number on the board. You'll never hear of a basketball or American football game ending with a score of zero to zero.

Well, if Football awarded 7 points for every goal, it might have higher scores as well 😛

Even if touchdowns were only worth 1 point it wouldn't matter, they're still a lot more frequent than goals in soccer.

It's also called soccer in Canada, Austalia and Japan.

I think that soccer is fun to watch, whether you really understand what's going on or not, and that is what makes it different from football, which plenty of people despise, just because they don't understand the full importance of planning plays.

Yeah I understand the importance of planning plays and what not. But that's the problem. The coach decides with players or without them, what play they're going to run. There is zero creativity coming from the players. I'm sure RJ will list a ''creative'' player whenever he comes on, but creativity still isn't as much of a requirement in AF as it is in football. Also, American football just doesn't flow. It's not exciting to me anyway.

Originally posted by SlayThat is not true. If the defense is any good th quarterback has to do some very quick thinking on a pass play. Being goalie doesn't really require much creativity, either, but, like linemen, they are a necessity to the team. Being on defense is a lot like playing defensively in chess. There's a lot of mindgames and bluffing that go in to the planning of a play, and for a true fan of football, seeing, and trying to call what the play will be or "playing coach" is where one finds the most joy in watching the game.
Choose a formation, make a game plan etc. Basically the same an AF coach does. However, because football is a much more flowing game, players have to rely on their own creativity and tactical insight not too long after the first whistle. Surely you're not going to deny that American Football is mostly stop-and-go action, and doesn't demand that much creativity from the players.

I think you underestimate the importance of a goalie. A good goalkeeper can be very much involved in the game and even cause chances.
