Hmm. I think people have started refering to them as Salafi's. Well either way they're not very popular within the much wider Muslim Community they're considered irritating.
That is only partially true.
Wahabbism, while not the most popular form of Islam, is gaining in power because of its association to Saudi oil money and aid.
In fact, because Saudi Arabia spends so much on international mosque and charity work, a huge percentage of new Mosques being built all around the world (and since the 70s) have preached a very "Wahabbized" form of Islam. There is an interesting connection between the Saudis, The early Muslim Brotherhood, and the community of Mosques in Germany, one of which was the birth place of the 9-11 plot.
"Whabbi", or what is more commonly described as "traditional" (though it isnt actually historically traditional of Islam) is a very strong and growing force in Islam, in both the Middle East and abroad.
