Avatar: The Legend of Korra

Happy to see that fart-bending is becoming more prevalent.

1. Yes, Farbending is literally becoming more and more of a thing in the show.

2. This last episode wasn't rushed, at all. There were lots of fights that lasted several minutes.

3. It is not Energy Bending. When Aang took away Ozai's bending, it was all energy-like and light beamy. What Amon is doing is a permanent chi blocking type thing. It can be restored. Even if it is "energy bending", that means that the Avatar can restore it.

4. Why the hell did they use Zuko's voice (Dante Basco) for Iroh? He does not have a man's voice. General Iroh is a man, not a young teen like Dante's voice sounds like. When I heard the General open his mouth and talk, I actually lol'd because it sounded so silly.

Nope, the light show isn't necessary...

i do agree with this, though.

The first time they showed Aang Energy bending, it was that flashy for a few reasons imo.

1. It had never been done or even heard of before then, so they had to show people what it did.

2. It showed the extreme polar opposites that Aang and Ozai were. Blue for peace/serenity/etc.., Orange-Red for evil/blah blah blah.

3. They had to show just how tough it was for Aang. If he wasn't as willed as he was, Ozai would have overloaded him for lack of a better term.

4. It looked damn cool.

👆

a LOT of people think that Aang is GONE! But they forget...Korra IS Aang...I used caps a lot in that sentence...ahaha i got pissed they watch that avatar movie but they don't even use their heads!

I like how no expects Korra's spirit to be stronger than Amon's. Theres no way she can pull an Ozai and attempt to overpower Amon' spirit.

Really goddamn looking forward to Saturday.

1 hour episode!

Korra will probably be without competition as well. Thundercats just finished a season, dunno why Young Justice showed a rerun but it may again....

I really hope Korra is good this week though. I just fear they may make Amon generic and just be stealing Bending powers. Would be lame.

Well, a partial light show is required, still. Aang's tattoo's (and probably his eyes) lit up.

You had better, berch.

His tattoos and eyes(of every Avatar) lighting up has always been indicative of the Avatar State. And as an adult he could go in and out of it at will rather quickly. Seems to me he just did it before using Energybending. Maybe it's a high level technique only available to him during said state, like Kyoshi splitting the mainland and forming Kyoshi island; or maybe he just did it to make it easier. Nothing suggests that it's the process of energybending itself that made him glow.

I love how even when Korra is disguised from head to toe she's still recognizable due to her huge rack.

And Mako managed to disgust me in record time this episode. Nice.

Edit:

Spoiler:
So Amon is Tarrlok's brother huh?

Wonder if the creator made Korra's boobs like that on purpose.

Oh and

Spoiler:
Korra can energy-bend and stuff, which took away some of the impact from Lin loosing her bending. There's also the air-bending that she was able to perform after loosing her other elements: shot at TLA perhaps?

Mako can go **** himself twice. Poor Asami

Spoiler:
I assumed it was because her connection with air wasn't all that strong yet, so Amon had nothing to cut.

And of course it's on purpose. 😛

So season 1 of Korra is finally over! Time to do a little critiquing.

The art style is actually pretty darn cool, much darker than the original but it actually works really well. The action was smaller in scale than the previous serious and though I prefer the original, this one had some pretty good moments.

The story....The backstory to

Spoiler:
Amon and Tarrlok
was good stuff, Lin and Tenzin were great and entertaining characters, and Asami's story is actually really tragic. Korra was a really good protagonist, better than Aang imo. The only weakspot is the ending...exactly like with friggin Aang. But she's good. So it Bolin, Pabu, and Naga. Iroh had few appearances but was still pretty darn awesome. Love the Airbender family as well of course. Though the best part is the villains...until the end I guess.

The weak points, and there are some, tend to all be caused by what feels like a rushed bit of pacing. The beginning was perfectly paced up until episode 5, where it really started to speed by as fast as possible. Understand why it happened, also understand that it's simply not a good enough excuse for me. I'd rather have a few good stories told well than a dozen told not so well. The one to get hit by this the worst is Mako, who is easily my least favorite character in the show. His relationship with Korra was badly handled and so was his later treatment of Asami. I'm serious when I say he honestly comes off as a horrible person to me. The lieutenant was also pretty weak as a villain and it's funny how much of a joke he is by the end. Also, episode 8 comes off much worse now since

Spoiler:
Tarrlok is now supposed to be pretty darn sympathetic but that doesn't change the fact that his behavior as Ze Führer. Needed to clean that up a bit.

On the whole, I liked it. Comparisons to the original is inevitable and next to it the flaws are much more easily seen. But it's very good at telling the stories it wants, with only a couple really being bad things. It had a nice setup, rushed middle, but a great finale really(if anticlimactic).

So I'd give it...7.5 outta 10.

Well, I can't say I'm not more than a little disappointed at that revelation about Amon. It was pretty lame. The episode itself was great and exciting, but it just didn't live up to my admittedly over-high expectations. I would have liked them to deal with the very real bender/non-bender problem more. But I guess it was unrealistic to expect heavy themes of disempowerment and privalege to be seriously examined in a kids show, even though it was barely a kids show and more of a full-blown anime imo.

Personally I thought, as usually, the exact opposite of Aura, and thought the series was great up until the final episode. Still one of the best cartoons I've ever seen.

LOVED IT! Especially the ending. I was like 😱

But there are few points that need to be cleared.

Spoiler:
A) What is Amon's deal? We know he was jealous of Avatar's power but why equalise everyone? Why the equalist movement? If it is power he wanted there were gazillion other ways to get it without becoming public enemy #1. Especially concidering how gifted he was.
B) Why didn't he try to take Korra's bending when he had the chance several episodes ago? At first I thought he's somehow connected to the avatar. But now we know he isn't. So what stopped him? Also it's a bit dissapointing the Amon turned out to be a completely new character. Kinda makes all the mystery stuff that surrounded him for 10 episodes pointless.
C) Why did Tarrlok kill himself and Amon? To rid the world of his brother? If so then he went a long way from being a selfish power greedy jerk. And ended up being a selfless hero who sacrificed his own life for no particular reason.
D) We still dont know how Amon took people's bending away. Some kind of bloodbending brain surgery? And if it has nothing to do with energy bending then how was Korra able to restore Lin's powers using energy bending? Does that mean she can give powers to anyone (even non-benders)? Or maybe she just used advanced bloodbending in Avatar state. Then it'd make sense.

Spoiler:

A) Amon is just a dick. Tarrlok said that he might really believe in his bullshit, but who knows.

B) Amon was saving it. If he took her bending away then, then he would have had the world go crazy on him to avenge her martyr'd ass before his forces were ready.

C) Change of heart. He was just guilty.

D) Who knows. If it was bloodbending then I don't get why Katara couldn't fix it. Amon was a prodigy, so he must have figured out a bending-blocking technique on his own.

Indeed. Poor Lieutenant. He really believed Amon. It's hard failing as a fighter but now your boss is a bender? I would have hoped that him finding out would have been a bigger deal. Instead Amon just lolbloodbend.

I dun think the final episode was perfect but I was more pleased with it than a lot of the middle ones. It felt rushed but it's a climax so it should feel fast. But....yeah, Amon was pretty boring after the reveal. Bloodbenders are just boring. They don't have interesting fights. Sure it makes for some dark images, like when the dogs were mad to bow before Yakone and his kids....but it gets old.

But hey, that aside, Amon really was a good villain and Korra was pretty decent. I'm still surprised they let suicide on television. Damn that was dark.

Though yeah I'm really annoyed how they made Tarrlok ambiguous, then lolevil, and then sympathetic. I think that could have been handled better.

But hey, disagreements aren't bad. You liked the pacing, I didn't, is all good.
