Indeed. Poor Lieutenant. He really believed Amon. It's hard failing as a fighter but now your boss is a bender? I would have hoped that him finding out would have been a bigger deal. Instead Amon just lolbloodbend.

I dun think the final episode was perfect but I was more pleased with it than a lot of the middle ones. It felt rushed but it's a climax so it should feel fast. But....yeah, Amon was pretty boring after the reveal. Bloodbenders are just boring. They don't have interesting fights. Sure it makes for some dark images, like when the dogs were mad to bow before Yakone and his kids....but it gets old.

But hey, that aside, Amon really was a good villain and Korra was pretty decent. I'm still surprised they let suicide on television. Damn that was dark.

Though yeah I'm really annoyed how they made Tarrlok ambiguous, then lolevil, and then sympathetic. I think that could have been handled better.

But hey, disagreements aren't bad. You liked the pacing, I didn't, is all good.

Lieutenant really was the most pitiful mini-boss since.... I can't think of anyone. He tried to do something plot-relevent this episode and Amon was just like 'Lol, stfu and die you pansy.' The man never caught a break the whole time through.

I completely agree. Amon lost all his charm after the reveal. Now he's just a big stinky cheater. It's really disappointing since until now, I would have said he has been one of the best executed villains I've ever seen. The man was a ****ing BEAST throughout the series and had real menace to him. Episode 4 was chilling imo.

It sucks that his reveal was

Spoiler:
HE'S YKONES OTHER SON!!!!!
That was just dumb. And bloodbending just doesn't work as a reveal twice in a row. They seriously stumbled with this, and yeah, now Azula remains the series' best villian.

I'm probably being overharsh, but I agree that Tarrlok was all over the place.

Edit: And seriously, ****ing face paint? They had the perfect opportunity to have it be facial reconstruction since they already brought it up. But man, that was goddamn sloppy Amon.

GOOOOOOOOOOONRAGE!

I've heard him called the Avatar version of Team Rocket. Sadly fits. You don't even look at him anymore and see a threat. You're just waiting to see who'll beat him.

He really was a good villain. He had a cool design, was an unconventional fighter by Avatar standards, and of course has the power of Blum behind him. I still do prefer him to Ozai though...

You know, I honestly wouldn't have minded it if they never revealed who Amon was. The Unreveal is a pretty cool trope to work with and it would be cool if they had a huge fight and all that was left of Amon was his mask or something.

It's like what Spoony said when reviewing Rampage. They pulled one twist too many. And I mean, Tarrlok seemed like a really good kid who didn't want to bloodbend anyone or hurt anyone. Why did he suddenly become so lolevil in Republic City? I could see him having a dark edge but total villain? I mean....meh.

Well I wouldn't want to scar my face either...then again, Amon seemed like the type to do whatever it took.

Someone should a version of this, but with Korra Deus ex Machina'ing her bending back. Or pulling Airbending out of her ass,

Dude has no dignity left. He has more airtime than screentime.

Really? Ozai was bland as hell. They didn't develop him as a character at all, he was just 'The Fire Lord.'

Same. They should have kept him a mystery. Maybe have a few more moments of 'WHAT THE **** ARE YOU!?' before he falls over a cliff and they never find the body.

Yes, Tarrlok doesn't really make sense. I suppose he was just corrupted by his father and subconsciously was becoming him without realising it, but that makes his earlier actions odd too.

Amonshould have realised that facepaint was too risky and could be washed off by water. Y'know, HIS ELEMENT!

Look at this sweet quote from Something Awful

Posted by SOME DOUCHE on DADDY ISSUES.
I agree. It worked for Zuko and Azula because 1) they weren't grown ass adults, 2) they'd had enough screen time for us to be invested in them and 3) the original series's writing actually made them sympathetic.

Tarrlok and Azula had close to the same amount of tragic character development time near the end of their respective series, but looking at various forums right now, most people don't give a shit about him while Azula is still popping up on Avatar forums 4 years after ATLA ended. Just compare how the two were handled. Everything done to make people feel sympathy for Azula is some kind of action. She doesn't explain to us why she's sympathetic, her actions make her sympathetic (or pitiable). Even when she's airing out her issues in the mirror scene, she's actively hallucinating, crying, getting angry. . . she's actually emoting and doing shit. She goes out fighting in what's widely considered to be the best fight scene in the series. Tarrlok just narrates his past with a sad voice. The boat scene at the end was good, but it just didn't have the interesting built up to make me care all that much, and I'm a ridiculous sap who cries at all kinds of stupid shit.

👆

I'm not sympathetic at all towards Azula. haermm

I'd be more sympathetic to Tarrlok if his character arc made any sense.

You're in the minority on that though. Everyone with taste agrees that Azula's breakdwn was amazing.

Tarrlok is a weeny.

"Amon pulls back the current and reveals the Airbending kids! Which means Lin's sacrifice amounted to exactly one shit."

And eh. I do not have sympathy for characters like Azula.

I'm in agreement in Neph. The episode would have been great were it not for the Amon reveal. As it is, I merely find the episode to be good.

Spoiler:
I also felt the very ending was pretty bad. Dues Aang Machina...

D) We still dont know how Amon took people's bending away. Some kind of bloodbending brain surgery? And if it has nothing to do with energy bending then how was Korra able to restore Lin's powers using energy bending? Does that mean she can give powers to anyone (even non-benders)? Or maybe she just used advanced bloodbending in Avatar state. Then it'd make sense.[/spoiler]
Spoiler:
According to Katara, Korra's connection with the three elements was completley severed. It seems Amon was able to do the exact same thing as energybending but through Bloodbending instead. Korra could then restore the connections (but I find it doubtful that she can make new ones).

Anyway, the story was neatly wrapped up. Time to replace "The Legend of Korra" with "The Continuing Antics of General Iroh, Bumi and the Exasperate Tenzin".

Is safe to say that Amon was the worst role Steven Blum ever star in? Amon turn out to be nothing but a butthurt kid in a grown ass man's body. Revealing him was one of the worst things they could do to a villian of potential.

Hell no. Seriously WTF? NO! Jesus christ no. Nope, no, nada, na.

YouTube video

Alls I knows is whining about how unfair life is=Energybending.

But I did like the episodes lol.

No, Amon was still a cool villian up until that last episode. Plus Blum was this guy:

@Ares, its amazing how cool Bumi was in 5 seconds. And Iroh should kick Mako out. He's so much more awesome thn that prick.

Iroh was awesome. Punches a missile and doesn't afraid of anything.

Still better than post reveal Amon.

Nah.

Are you re-watching Korra and Mako kissing?

Ok, I finally dislike Mako now.

I feel like complementing the episode though guys....

Like, the Asami story was tied up really well, Bolin was awesome as ever, Iroh is just a bawss jumping from plane to plane. I was legit concerned when I saw the Airbenders in danger, Hiroshi was actually pretty effective as a villain, and even if the backstory doesn't really explain enough and goes on a tad too long, Amon and Tarrlok's past was good. And the best moment was the end really. Even though I hated how they handled the energybending thing, I was really impressed with how they revealed Aang at the end. And come on, that suicide was bawlsy for a kids show. Horrible but it takes guts to do that.

Now the question is: What are they going to do now?

Edit: The worst thing about Mako is that is named after THE Mako. One of the most awesome dudes ever.

Nah, that was tp Phanteros suggestion that Amon is Blum's worst character. 😛 He may not be as awesome after the reveal but he is still quite cool.

As for Mako... I'm rather indiffrent about him.

I agree with every thing but the reveal and the end. I feel it would be a lot better if they

Spoiler:
left Korra cut off from her powers and the next season could be about her reclaiming them.

This is true.

actually giving her all her powers is a sound idea, it just means they will have to give her a more worthy oppenent to fight Korra and plus break up and potential tedium of her having to learn them again.

I'm not suggesting that she should relearn them but rather run around looking for the ancient secrets of energy bending so she can reclaim them.
