Avatar: The Legend of Korra

Well producing lightning is a technique that must be learned. In TLA it was only taught to the Royal Family. I guess Zuko let the commoners learn it.

I got my hands on the search. What was in that note that azula burned, anyway?

They didn't say. For all we know it's a random piece of paper Azula used to manipulate Zuko in taking her.

I doubt she'll burn any real concrete evidence since Zuko's a bastard.

They're showing the first episode at Comic Con tomorrow.

Welp I just came.

Sounds awesome.

I'm probably not going to like it...

YouTube video

Coming September.

There are three things I don't like about this series:

1. Lightning bending is common place. It's supposed to be a really hard technique that only the best firebenders can use. But here it seems everyone from gangsters to orphans can use it.

2. Mako and Korra are pretty horrible people. Mako, kissing Korra while dating Asami and Korra kissing Mako after leading Bolin on. What a couple of dicks.

3. Tarrlok's back story. He was such a cool villain, then we learn that he never wanted to be a villain, but it's his destiny to be an a**hole?

That being said, these things didn't stop me from enjoying the series as a whole and I can't wait until book 2 🙂

Korra is a gorgeous show that has many great qualities, but its writing is not one of them imo.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't ever stated to be a hard technique to use. It's rare because it was only taught really to the Royal Family. Why would a monarchy give a special power to the common people?

Mako's a dick. What's even more annoying is the justification on it by a good percentage of the fandom that accepts it because they love "Makorra."

I don't feel bad for Bolin who got heads over heels for really no reason but sure I guess Korra was a little mean there.

"... This energy is both Yin and Yang, positive energy and negative energy. Only a select few firebenders can separate these energies ..."
- Iroh to Zuko in the episode "Bitter Work"

I don't recall it ever being stated that only the royal family was taught it. Wouldn't it be vital to winning the war if as many soldiers as possible knew this technique?

It doesn't necessarily say that the technique itself is hard, just that there is a prerequisite to actually use the technique. Iroh was led to believe that this prerequisite is limited to a select few people but as shown in Korra he's wrong.

And no it's not stated that lightning was only taught to the Riyal Family but since the only practitioners were in the Royal Family I'm guessing that it's not a coincidence. Someone like Jeong Jeong didn't even sue lightning and no fan would say Mako > him. It's all about being taught the technique in which 99.999999999 of the world was not.

from the trailer, this is my new desktop background 🙂

The fact that lightning technique's only been taught among the royal family suggests not many benders managed to discover it. Iroh said it's hard. And a tallented firebender like Zuko couldn't even do it. Its safe to say it's hard. Just like metalbending to earthbenders and bloodbending to waterbenders.

I have a feeling that after Zuko finds his mother, he'll achieve the inner peace required for lightning generation.

Also, I hope that Ozai is still his biological father, otherwise it would make the episode "The Avatar and The Firelord" (one of my favorites) completely pointless.

Why?

Zuko couldn't lightning bend clearly because he was phucked up in the head for pretty much the entirety of the series. He never achieved that calm inner peace and balance that Iroh, Ozai, and Azula all had in different ways. There was also the fact that even when he got close to it, at that point there was no time to teach him.

As I've pointed out though, techniques that were originally rare were taught to the public over time like lightning bending and metalbending. The war was over, the world was changing. It was an inevitable thing.

Also, lightning bending is clearly used for power. So it makes sense they taught as many Firebenders as possible because it not only creates job, but is a means of endless clean energy.

Yeah, 1 and 3 are both total BS.

As for 2, Mako is pretty horrible IMO. But I never felt that way about Korra.
