Well there was One Airbender left in existence in Aang. He married a water bender and had 3 kids, only 1 of which was an Airbender in Tenzin. Then Tenzin's 3 kids were Airbenders as well.
So Aang and Tenzin would have had to go around plowing every woman they could find for more Airbenders to be born, and they'd all be related.

They need to be in a certain blood line? When was that said? I thought the air benders died out because the temple and their teachings were just wiped off the face of the planet.
I was under the impression that those with potential to be air benders just lived normal lives with no way to exspand or discover their gifts given air bending being a dead form.
I thought at the end of Avatar that Aang would of brought back an air temple and went searching for those with the potential to airbend to resurrect air bending and bring balance back to things since all elements need to be for future avatars to fulfill mastery off all the elements. Nevermind just return things to the way they were with all elements just flourishing for the sake of it.
Well unlike all the other nations, the Air Nomads were a small people and you never heard of Airbenders outside of the Nomads. I just assumed that with the only known Airbenders and people who could pass the gene on gone, that the chance of there being more would be slim.
I could be wrong obviously but that was my train of thought since in the 100 years since Aang had been gone, there were no Air Nomads left aside from him and you didn't see a single Airbender. And in Korra there's only Tenzin and the kids, plus Korra who doesn't really count as an Airbender. And if there were more you'd think they would have been those soldiers they had on Avatar Island or something.
Yeah. The Air Nomads were wiped out to find the Avatar who was an Airbender. So Aang was the last one until he had kids. Now it's Tenzin and his 3(maybe 4 when the new baby comes) kids who are the last Airbenders. And the Air Acolytes keep their teachings and traditions alive. So there won't be more Airbenders until the kids start having kids.
