To be fair, not that we're really obligated to be objective, Unalaq's motives haven't really been revealed. We know he wanted to be chief but much beyond that can't say much. We need to wait for his connection to these spirits to really judge him.
But right now he isn't inspiring much hope. But I like the design.
Unalaq is ****ing Tarrlok version two. What the ****? Did they run out of ideas?
I mean if this season was stand alone it would be awesome but it's reused plot points thrown in our face. I mean we never saw any protagonist break into a prison to save their father who happens to be the SWT's leader right?
I'm still a big fan but I'm very disappointed in the villians.

Oh I like the show. Its pretty hilarious if nothing else. The fight scenes are good and I like most of it alot. I just think it has so much potential that its not living up to. And Korra's lack of intelligence and development is getting frustrating.
In fact, she's just kind of frustrating in general. I want the character who burst through a wall and shouted "I'm the Avatar, you've gotta deal with it!", not the whiny angsty stupid douche who's constantly making dumb moves, not thinking, being fooled and never getting to be a badass like I feel she should be.
Avatar: TLA was so good, and Korra just hasn't lived up to it imo.
Is it just me or is Korra being a total ***** lately?

Oh god, I hope not. Varrick is a great character who seems to be a genially nice guy as well despite having a "rich guy" attitude. Making him a villain would just be lame.
I actually just came here to predict Varrick as behind the bombings. He isn't really a "nice guy", as he was behind Unaloqs kidnapping, tried to bribe the trial and came up with war profiteering, propaganda and illegal troop dispatch in this episode. Blowing up the building to increase hatred for the North is right up his alley. In fact I bet he bribed those two cops as well. Next episode we'll learn that he came up with the idea during one of his "inspimation" things.
And yeah, Korra was a complete cow this episode.
Also I'm calling it right here, right now: Unaloq isn't evil. And the people complaining about him descending into cartoon villainy and not being as morally ambiguous as he seemed are going to be eating crow in a few weeks.

You see, I just see all of those as him having a "rich person" persona. Plus his statement on war profiteering is straight up true but, yeah, cartoon.
The reason I consider him a "nice" person is when he realizes Bolin is being left out he invites Bolin to come with him.

And yes Aura, Mako was the only good character this episode.
I'm not praising Mako. In fact he feels like he has gone back to his Gary Stuness because of the sheer stupidity in the writing.
We, the audience, agree with Mako since we saw that it was a Firebender and his buddies who blew up the building. We know that Mako is right that there is more going on than meets the eye and so when we see people dismissive of him it naturally causes us to side with him....
But why exactly are they dismissive of him? If he were a punk cop I could understand. If he got into trouble a lot and really messed things up then sure. But Mako is a good cop and hell a bona fide hero for helping put down Amon. Why does nobody take the words "I saw a ****ing Firebender dressed as a gangster blow up the building" seriously? Are the cops in the series under some insane logic that dictates only one bad guy may exist at a time?
And say Mako is wrong and that the Northern Tribe really did pay them off...why wouldn't Lin have her cops look into the Agni Kai guy to verify? Hell they might be able to use him to learn what was going on in the war. Going by what Mako implies the characters aren't even investigating the switch that blew the building up...why wouldn't they? That was a weapon at a scene of a crime. What police station in their right mind wouldn't look into it?
Basically the plot is making us sympathetic with Mako and on his side because everyone else is acting so unrealistically stupid. And this is the Police Force under Lin so you can't really say they're being lazy since she wouldn't allow that.
What I'm saying is I still hate Mako and having the universe bend unrealistically stupidly to place me on his side is still an example of a Gary Stu. For me anyway.
No, but those two cops clearly were imo. They don't look into the trigger and they just shove Mako's picture into a draw. That obtrusiveness beyond idiocy. They don't look like Lin's elite metalbenders to me either. If they really are just morons then yes thats awful writing but I think its more than that. Corruption has already been brought up after all.
He only found out about him right before he came to the station and she was meeting with the President when he tried to tell her. So she passed it off to the two cops who yeah, seem pretty damn corrupt as well as assholes for trying to get Mako in trouble.
So if he has told her, we won't see results until next episode.
