Mass Effect 3

Preordered this sucker and looking forward to it. Even though Bioware decided to be GAY and offered a 10 dollar DLC on release day.... /sad Still, I'm a big fan and can't wait to try the coop play in this game.

Had a scare this morning. Got an email from GAME UK saying they weren't supplying ME3 after some dispute with EA...I put £5 down on this pre-order. Luckily they're reimbursing their customers

Spoiler:
Mass Effect's galaxy lost all infrastructure for 200k+ years. The relays no longer work because some magic maguffin, cutting off entire planets and sectors from their home worlds. Some worlds lost all tech because of this.

In warhammer, this event was called the age of strife which followed the same parameters as Mass Effect's world.

Ah. Typical. Kind of sad though; Game is a pretty big store throughout Britain and Ireland.

I'm getting my copy at work, so I'm lucky.

Watched X-Play yesterday and found out something interesting and a bit frustrating if I understand it correctly.

Bioware is somewhat integrating the multiplayer experience into the main story one.

Apparently they're doing this by putting the Multiplayer Special Forces characters into the main story later on(probably close to and during the final battle) as NPC's. The thing is, the level you get each character to dictates how well they'll do in the fight, and how much further in your favor or the opposite it will go. You can "Prestige" the characters up to level 20 I think and that's when they max out.

So if you don't do any of the multiplayer, you might lose a lot of people because your special forces get massacred, but if you max all of them out, they could do considerable damage to the Reaper forces in the final battle.

It's an interesting concept, but I'm kinda pissed that I'm basically forced to do this if I want the best ending possible with them.

Bioware said you can get the best ending without playing multiplayer, just that multiplayer makes getting the best ending easier. Theres a default setting of things, but playing the multiplayer not only does what you just said, but also gives you bonuses throughout the single player game.

Doesn't sound much different from the ME2 ending, honestly.

In your first playthrough of the game, you had to spend X amount of time playing that crappy mining mini-game in order to be able to afford all those upgrades, otherwise you'll lose a bunch of your dudes.

Bioware has a hard-on for the whole "consequences" thing.

Didn't know that Jalek.

And Blaxican, in ME2 you didn't have to mine for minerals all that much, especially since you picked up a decent amount of them while walking around mission planets. And since all you needed to upgrade was the main gun, the shields, and the armor, it wasn't that much. Everything else was extra.

That's a lot different than having a bunch of different classes and having to level each one up 20 times. Although since that's not necessary, it's basically a moot point.

I agree with KingD. There wasn't too much need for mining. Especially if you maxed your char in ME1 - which I happened to make particularly sure of - as you get all the element zero you require for upgrading the ship from the get go and near half of the materials needed for the other extras.

Also, with the Shadow Broker DLC you could just complete that and buy the locations of material rich planets, which got rid of the whole "lets mine every planet" thing

As for the Multiplayer intergration, it means people will be more inclined to play the multiplayer, normally you don't dream of single player bonuses from multiplayer games....could be interesting, at the same time as being relatively frustrating

Well to be fair that actually makes a lot of sense as an ending, and I kind of expected something like that.

The Something Awful forums thread for this game has a ****ton of spoilers, which I unfortunately stumbled on. 🙁

I got outta there quick, but the damage was done.

What's all this not-on-Steam crap? Ah geez, now I need to download Origin, and now there's all the complication that comes that if I change my password in Origin I'll never be able to log into Need for Speed Shift 2, apparently, in one of the more insane modern-day happenings in gaming. They even have a note up on Shift 2's website saying that if you change your password in Origin, you are buggered... oh, but you can't change it in game any more either. Great.

Despite having bought MEs 1 and 2 over a year ago just to get prepped for this game, I think I'll wait it out. I have games to play backing up and with any luck it'll come cheaper later. Or I may end up never buying due to Origin hassle; I'm not THAT keen.

I had no idea that was a factor. I had planned on buying this game though Steam or a similar service.

Do saves even transfer from the steam version now that it's origin only?
