Which might be why I quoted the first post, where the OP said that they were told all soldiers were heroes in his or her country. I then said, we are told they are heroes here, in America, too.

Ah yes, the humanitus democraticus, rarely found in statis reduicle. I think the eight year Bush incident boosted some of us out of stasis. Me, I just had the luck of having a young, impressionable mind that was put through the fruitful hands of educated, and therefore surely democrat, teachers.
I think all soldiers fighting for their country are heroes. From the people who work in a office, to the people who defend forts and bases, to the people who actually save lives. Soldiers give up their freedoms to be in the military all to protect the country. Now all soldiers aren't perfect but niether is anyone else. People acted all surprise when they found out soldiers were torturing prisoners, like all soldiers have high morals. Some people get hungry with power, and if you have power over people who don't have rights in America then you may ego trip. Those types of soldiers shoudn't be given power obviously. Just like cops who sell drugs when there supposed to be protecting society from them. I think that all soldiers are heros and I appreciate all of them.
"To protect the country" yeah Darth. Now attacking others is just deemed as protecting oneself, cause thats what most if not all western countries do. They dont just stand there and wait for a war to happend or get invaded, NO they make the war happen. and then say WE PROTECT OUR SELVES! You see the failed logic here?
Currently I would not even tell a soldier that what he is doing is great or noble, or whatever cause supporting the soldiers of today is the same as supporting the damn wars. The day when my country gets bloody invaded, we will talk about heroes.
Well Bluesteel what ever floats your boat, although soldiers don't choose what they do or when they do it. If your commander tells you to guard a door for no reason all day =, then you do it, with no questions asked. If there were no soldiers then obviously our country could be easily invaded. If you're upset about our country attacking others then you need to focus that fury on politicians, not the soldiers. You think soldiers would be doing half of the crap they do today, cuz I can promise you we would not be in the middle east right now! I don't support the war going on, but I always support the soldiers. They are still heroes

Currently these wars serve only to enrich corporations not to proct our nation, and the blind faith the soldiers apply to their commanders who know this fact leaves a stench around the whole thing. Whenever the soldiers as a group all decide they refuse to follow unjust orders and stop being lied to then I will consider them all heroes. Soldiers lose freedoms in the military, and standing up for what you believe in is not allowed. Orders will be followed or you go to jail, and believe it or not guarding a door is pointless but can't be argued. If you organize a group of people to stop following unjust orders you will always have a group of true soldiers to take you down. Some people still love their country and will take a bullet before someone disrespects it. The commander can just tell MP's that he wanted you to pratice dicsipline! And the President is the Commander in Chief so you best believe you're doing anything he says, and what Robert Gates the Secretary of defense. It's not the soldiers who change stuff when something extreme happens. They see the problems abd voice tham on deaf ears, it's the office officers who change stuff when something bad happens. Soldiers are still heroes!
