Marvel's Newest Event - Fear Itself

I dunno if this is how Odin is typically portrayed, and therefore if it's good writing in the sense of being consistent with previous incarnations, but I personally enjoyed it as somebody who doesn't read enough of Thor to have formed a solid impression of Odin beforehand. I thought the character's dialogue was well done, even if it doesn't suit Odin.

Also the art looks snazzy. Except for the Watcher, but they always, always look dumb, so. Whatever.

The part where Odin got mad at the Watcher was kind of ammusing

It's hard to say Odin has had different styles like most characters.

This could just an all-powerful god not in a good mood because something bad is about to happen and he knows he may not be able to stop it.

That's what I attributed the Watcher as. Less him trying to yell at the Watcher and more of him yelling at himself same with Thor.

I loved how Uatu just looked at him like "child please. I was watching since long before you were even an itch in Bor's pants". And then he just turns his back to him (In ancient times this was the ultimate sign of disrespect) and walks away.

Just looked at the reviews, looks like it was a good issue. I'll wait about 3 or 4 issues to see how it pans out.

Just read Book Of The Skull that part with Skull doing the ritual in an abandoned building with the magic dudes reminded me of Hellboy.

His outfit looks ****ing retarded. Tron, srsly?

Or you know, pretty standard Jack Kirby inspired Gods / Celestial costume design... only with glowing to denote power.

I like how he's developed spider eyes. Spidernaut

Is the point of these costumes to strike fear? If so, fail.

why is Sin described as an anarchist here:

Even as tension amongst led to a riot in New York City that left even Steve Rogers at his wit’s end and the Avengers scrambling for a solution, Sin, daughter of the Red Skull, journeyed to Antarctica to unearth an artifact her father long sought: a mysterious mystical hammer that transformed the aspiring anarchist into the mysterious Skadi.

Isn't she a Nazi?

also, Fraction appears to have the political sensibilities of a grade 8 civics student... "thats democracy" is hardly a profound statement... its a cursory and trite ... no, not the place to rant about this... imho, Fraction doesn't seem to have the nuanced political insight he is being praised for in the interview, though, given the interviewer confused anarchism and nazism, this isn't surprising...

😆

I guess it's like people who smear political opponents as Communists AND Nazis...because 'they stand for everything we don't stand for!'

its just depressing though. Marvel said from day 1 that they wanted Fear Itself to have some resonance with the political situation that America finds itself in within the modern world... aaaannnnnnd the people writing the comic have a barely cursory level understanding of politics...

The scene where the Avengers were on the roof going like "well, it wasn't dr doom who caused that riot, jeez, things must be terrible in America if there are protests in the street that aren't caused by super villains!", /facepalm. profound. such relevant insight into the political landscape of America.

Hasn't Marvel said that about basically every non-Cosmic, non-street level Crossover since Civil War?

This "trying to be relevant" shtick is getting old.

I think what might have happened was Civil War disappointed me so much for the same reason, that I just stopped paying attention until now...

What's so silly about this is that the public in general was more composed during the "looming economic collapse" then the Government officials who freaked out a couple of years ago lol. The people only got pissed off after the bailouts began, but yet the jobs still disappeared.
