I hope you're not mocking me...because I have pointed out multiple plotholes in this film, already. 🙂

So the tonnes of reasons is the speculation?...or the military arm?...or both...exactly.

I typed "tons", not "tonnes". Keep that gay European sh*t outta here. uhuh

The tons of reasons are tons of reasons because we do not know how "Engineer" society is built...yet.

I really hope we get to see female engineers...GIANT WHITE BOOBIES.

I concur with this notion.

Well, if you're jabbering against dadudeman is any indication, you must be exceptional at trolling.

Just saw this post. You're good people. 👆

However, Jaden is not trolling me. It's impossible for Jaden to troll me. It seems like trolling to outsiders but it's just good fun. 😄

Your FACE is malformed.

Good point. Sometimes how I reply to my fellow posters elsewhere may look like trolling too, but I show them sarcasm and deep seated animosity out of e-love. Please carry on.

Also, glad that we finally found out what David said to the Engineer. I figured it was something along the lines of:

DDM may be right about you. I'll give you another chance. Anyone who uses sarcasm in that way must be good people.

This is a movie that invites you to ponder the reason for existence with a fictional origin of the human race from extraterrestrial beings and it also features traveling across the galaxy.

See, I walked away from Prometheus NOT pondering the reason for existence but more the plot-holes & contradictions of the story.

So my question to you is:

How much is this your own personal observation from the movie itself &/or how much is your opinion influenced based on all the follow-up articles & numerous summaries/opinions by others?

I mean not every one who watched the movie was well versed in either Greek mythology, the bible or theories of evolution to pick up the subtleties of what Ridley was hinting at.

Well, I am in all of those but I do not think I had to use anything beyond an 8th grader's educational level to pick up on those. "Aliens created humans", "Greek Mythology", "the bible"...none of those are secrets or even niche.

Re-watched Prometheus earlier in the week. I still love it. Loved it even more the second time actually. I had a greater appreciation for Theron's character knowing more about her from the beginning. Same thing with the dream of Shaw's at the beginning.

Also, I'm kind of thinking that the engineers planned all along to destroy the humans once they reached a point in civilization that was getting closer to that of the Engineers. They decided it was time about 2000 years ago, but something went wrong. If it was the plan all along though, then that would explain the cave maps that lead humans to the planet with the black goo, because the invitation could have been a fail safe in the event that something goes wrong (as it did). Just a theory.

Interesting theory and the first I have heard of this.

I think Jaden theorized that that was what he planet was for, all along: a trap that was always there just in case humanity reached interstellar travel capabilities.

Yeah, I read up on it after I saw it. Sure. I never have been very good at filling in the gaps. I knew they were getting at something with the title of the film, though. But so what? (It's obvious that everyone here made up their mind whether or not to like it right after they saw it.) But even still there's some obvious philosophical dialogue, like the chat between David and Holloway about finding out why they were created. It's clearly not a movie meant to be taken at face value. You have to dig quite a bit deeper. Like I said before, no one minded when Kubrick did it. And I don't see all these "plotholes" and "inconsistencies" that everyone keeps asserting. All I see is an incomplete story.

The fact that we're all pondering what the Engineer's intentions were with the invitation and the black goo, that's good stuff. Some ambiguity can make for better dialogue rather than straight-forward answers. I mean, when Alien came out no one bitched about not knowing why the Alien ship was there with all the eggs around not knowing what that Space Jockey was for... blah, blah, blah... it was still thought-provoking and damn entertaining.

^ LOL @ the memes in the commenst

I just watched the first 3 Alien films again with a friend. I was a little confused as to what year the films were set in... so I looked it up. I believe that the years are as follows:

Prometheus: 2093
Alien: 2122
Aliens: 2179
Alien 3: right after Aliens, I suppose?
Alien Resurrection: 200 years after Alien 3

Best ones IMO:

This is cool. Makes sense too. The Engineer gets pissed cause he already gave them life, and now they ask more of it, even more selfishly, they make their creation ask for it.

Very perceptive. Like asking your dog to confront God.

"COOL, I'M GONNA PUT SOME OF THIS IN MY HOMIES DRINK."

I lol'd.

That image is stupid: Optimus Prime was not in Prometheus! 😠

😂

I am pleased to see that Prometheus picked up another $10 million domestically this weekend. Which brings the worldwide total so far to $261 million. (BoxOfficeMojo). It has doubled its production budget. Doesn't seem too shabby at all for a high budget R-rated film.
