I am pleased to see that Prometheus picked up another $10 million domestically this weekend. Which brings the worldwide total so far to $261 million. (BoxOfficeMojo). It has doubled its production budget. Doesn't seem too shabby at all for a high budget R-rated film.

a sequel can certainly be greenlighted soon

(God I hope you're right.) But how do you know that? Is doubling the production budget a sure sign of a sequel or something?

yes that is a reason because is a hit. although they may want Prometheus to make a little more though before they officially give it a go

Prometheus would have done a lot better had Madagascar not come out the same weekend. That was a very shitty time to release the movie, imo. They should have done it two weeks ago and then they would have gotten two weeks of smooth sailing against some of the other films.

To be fair, I don't think anyone expected Madagascar to do so well. That franchise sucks donkey dick.

Another Madagascar movie?........news to me.

Yeah, the success of that film is a bit puzzling because it looked absolutely ridiculous (i had to sit through the trailer a few times at the theater). I looked at the gross of those sorts of animated movies and they make a killing. Jesus Christ, they are lucrative. No wonder that kind of bullshit comes out all the time.

Definitely didn't expect it to hold up as number one for two weekends either.

Whatever the case, I will be going back to see Promo this weekend. Loved the cinematography, loved the way it made me think, loved the great nods to 2001 and other great sci-fi films.

This page features a screenshot from a deleted scene and looks quite revealing...

Prometheus in Cinefex

Looks sort of like a primitive Engineer or more like it could be something similar to the Engineer from the original Alien.

Some more deleted stuff:

Engineers by the Waterfall 1
Engineers by the Waterfall 2
Picked up by Engineer
Fifield more Monstrous (What I was referring to above (I think I read that it's actually Fifield)
Some more deleted screen caps
Deleted line from Holloway
Deleted line: Kill Everything

And apparently there's more to the intro DNA/sacrifice sequence...

Here's the thing: I really like Ridley Scott. Clearly he's a phenomenal director. But I do take some issue with him a little bit in what he chooses to and not to include in his cuts of the film. Some of that stuff should really be in the film. For example, I never really liked the Director's Cut of Blade Runner because it was left a bit too vague. I know that's supposed to be more respected by critics, to leave more to the viewer to figure out, so you don't have voiceovers of the character's intentions, emotions, etc. But I think in this case it kind of hurt the reception of the film. If they had included that pivotal line spoken from David to the Engineer, then I think it would have cleared up a lot of confusion. And it looks like including more of the ritual amongst the Elder engineers at the beginning would have also cleared up some confusion. And that live from Holloway is great. I don't know, I mean I know you have to be concerned about pacing and length, but shit, I really want a damn extended/director's cut of this. I'll be pissed if there isn't one, to expound upon what's going on...

...and I'm also not going to rest easy until I hear news that the sequel is in production, heh... 😕

I'd say stretching it ten more minutes as a quick patch or a full twenty or so and adding things like the mutated homey terrorizing the crew for a bit instead of just popping up for some kills and a quick exit would have taken it over the top. Also don't recall finding out exactly what happened with the decapped SJ.

I really don't see anything wrong with leaving what David said to be a mystery for those of us who saw it opening weekend. It really did add to the whole question of just what the Engineers saw us as and whether or not they perhaps valued us no more than the Greek gods valued mortals.

Whatever the case it was a great, great movie.

I thought the same, as well. But we get the picture (pun) on what was intended.

And for the squid. So they guy wasnt going to be using screenshot accurate models..

Are you saying that that you'd like to see ten more minutes or so? Or not? I mean, considering that he had like 15 different versions of Blade Runner, I'll be pissed if there isn't one (and hopefully only one) extended cut of Prometheus.

Indeed. Love it. 😄

Yeah, I was saying that the film should have been longer even in theaters. A few more minutes could have straightened out the majority of the holes/questions without taking away from the mystery that made it a great move.

How was it wrong? The squid pumped some mess down the Engineer's throat and a while later a xeno-like creature popped from his stomach.

I think they are being EXTREMELY observant and noticing from that silhouette that the xeno's head isn't pointed like it was in the film. Because it's so interesting to comment on that, of course. 😬

I totally agree. There were apparently some more lines that didn't make the final cut that could have helped clear some things up. Ridley likes to keep things sort of ambiguous and mysterious, but in this case I think it caused people to go in the wrong direction with it and just assume all these "plot holes."

Fifield scan enlarged.

You can see from this that they're not the same. The knee-pads look different, the armlets, everything. In fact, the creature doesn't appear to be wearing any suits we see onboard the Prometheus. The lack of considerable fire damage is telling too.

EDIT: Also, is it just me, or do the majority of the Engineers near the waterfall look ancient, and the young muscular one is the sacrifice? What kind of society is this anyways?

Besides those things can see what they were trying to do.
