USH'S LORD OF THE RINGS GAME PART 4- The Hunt in the Hills

Yes, but bear in mind a. no kill shot is guaranteed (though you do get a surprise attack bonus) and b. whilst bows are silent, people aren't. Unless you roll an instant kill critical, he'll cry out.

Hmm, I'll likely have some time to flee if he cries out though...which I guess is a decent plan in case of failure. I think I'll take the risk and try to kill him.

So much for sneaky Elves... :-)

Trial run, it'll be alright.

Lacharon rolls... 53! It's +20 for a surprise attack and I'll give it +15 flanking bonus also, as he can likely do it when the Dunlending is not looking directly. That's 88 from the roll, and as he has a nifty bow skill of 52 that is 140! That's the kind of rsult you wanted.,

These Dunlendings are unarmoured and a 140 gives us a 23E (that's 23 damage, plus an E class wound, which is a heftu bonus on the critical table).

Uhoh. I rolled a 96 on the critical, which the 'E' improves to 116.

"Strike through leg. Artery severed. Down and unconscious. Lose 12 hits a round."

Today, fate is with you, Lacharon. That's the exact sort of result you wanted. He's effectively dead.

Make sure you record that! The damage done, the critical and, of course, the kill are worth xp!

Incidentally, I'll call that a close range shot so no big deal regardless, bt for future reference what sort of bow is that +10 one you got?

The basic choices are short, composite and long. The longer the bow, the longer the range- but bows take a turn to reload. That's not much good in a crisis so you can quick-load a bow without waiting a turn, but then the longer the bow, the worse the quickshot is.

Or you could have a crossbow, which is as un-Elfy as I can imagine but someone in our playgroup did it with a Noldor.

(It was Torval).

Need to meet Toval. He sounds awesome.

Anyway... if I remember correctly, it was a lot of blood, some large animal, I'm thinking deer, or deer like, so we can go looking on some grazing areas like the first place, I think.

I will stay with Ellothiel and Paladan, since Stefan just posted. Don't want to leave them defenseless and dead if we come across something.

Hurry thee up, Lacharon, else I shall have to count you out of this happening...

-

Ok, long story short, Palidan- finding wildlife is easy., What are you going to do with it once you find it? It was kinda an Ellothiel dependent plan and is tricky without her. I can relocate you all to the other scenario if you want/

Sorry, Lacharon would have a composite-bow.

I have no info yet, right? Could I try sneaking around more, maybe first hide the body.

We shall assume you hide it.

Indeed, you can try sneaking in again! Of course, now we are on a timing thing before they notice the missing man.

One more day an I shall move on regardless!

Okay, I will try another sneaking now. Do I choose the risk again? If so I'd go for easy this time.

Hmm, a 40 is still not a great roll but as you went for the easy option you are safe for now...

In that case, from a nearby hill you have located the Dunlending encampment- a relatively primitive affair; no walls or the like but it is up against a sheer hill which means it can only be approached from three cardinal directions. There are at least six Dunlendings there but you do not have anything more accurate than that; they are armed with a variety of crude axes.

That's not too bad, Lacharon will retreat and meet up with the group to report.

I'd say we can take them!

Ok, give me an attack plan!

Can we steal dead guys clothes?

Maybe Lacharon can stay in the back and snipe, and maybe also surprise attack!

Meh, alright, Talin will come in on the Dunlending assault, since we're missing our key to finding the Orcs. Interrogating the Dunlendings will have to do.

We should rain arrows on them and push them in a certain direction, where the rest of us will be waiting.
