wait what? Whats ridiculous is suggesting that surfer is amped by every blackhole he gets into by default even when such is not indicated on panel. Nothing stops this inane line of reasoning from also be extended to his encounters vs energy blasts or in stars, both which serve as precedents for the same kind of situation being described with the blackholes.
Moreover, surfer was never even in the blackhole he used to amp himself. so statement "blackholes hurting surfer until he decides they dont" is truly dumbfounding

Blackholes themselves arent energy obviously, but they do apparently generate and gobble up forms of energy

Comic writers however wouldnt even need such real life validation in order to write surfer somehow amping his powers from a blackhole.

This myth needs to die. Gladiator IS NOT faster than Superman. Not even close. He's not stronger than Superman. And he's not even close to as durable either. He's Superman-lite. Not only that, but considering Glads spends most of his time in space, where feats tend to go up in scale due to "space cheese" and he's more often than not portrayed as a ruthless enforcer for an empire, its funny that he still has no feats that make him more powerful than Superman, who as a HERO based on earth is almost always holding back.SS has no combat speed feats. He has one of the most notorious glass jaws in all of comics. He's been physically beaten by characters who aren't as strong as Superman numerous times.
Superman would beat the SS. I have no doubt about that.
Gladiator is stronger, faster, more durable, better fighter, etc, etc...
There were one issue where he was continuously moving at hyper speed operating a big a** computer. He has also pushed planet size asteroids that was blocking star lanes, busted planets... and has feats of moving and fighting at invisible speeds.
Gladiator is a monster and that's not including his feats of one shotting Heralds or swimming in a star 100 million miles wide like it was nothing... or stalemating sue who was powered by the unipower... or his heat vision matching Tyrants eye beam. Then he completely tanked and walked through a high intense beam from both Binary and Vulcan and him walking through the most fierce alien group in the universe that was teamed with the skrull that was amped off of the power of earth hero's.
Pushing planets... caculated by Reed and Professor X as having unlimited strength.

Gladiator is good but not Superman good
Superman and Gladiator like most high end heralds are on par with average. If one had to pick a winner, the answer would have to be Superman. That's just the reality of it.
I'm also pretty certain it was stated Surfer can amp up himself with black hole energy and IIRC the first time he went into a black hole with Red Shift, it said the Power Cosmic shielded or protected Surfer from the effects of a black hole. As a result, I would be hesitant to use Surfer surviving in a black hole as evidence of a durability feat. Not like I would when Clark etc. enters one.
On to the fight: It's a pretty close one. Personally, I'd probably pick Superman in a straight up fight. Surfer can win, but I think an average Surfer who simply flies and blasts would play to the Kryptonian's strengths. Superman could close the gap and defeat him with his physically edge. That being said, Surfer is still a more powerful character and clearly a fair bit more versatile with the capabilities to easily end the battle if he chose to use the aforementioned versatility.
Rage, I hate when you do that.
As for your comment. Surfer is just overall more powerful and his energy blast isn't just some random blast, they are powerful enough to do some serious damage to people in his tier. Surfer versatility isn't what gives him this fight, he is just overall more powerful. No one is just going to fly up on Surfer punching him.
Bill did that and got clobbered in the back of the head with a board going high speeds.

I agree with most of this except the part about being more powerful. More powers yes, but more powerful, i think not.
For example, if Earth had to be moved back to its original orbit for whatever reason , my money is on supes to get the job done. Surfer for all his powers could not get it done
conclusion more powers does not equal more powerful
That's a good point and I realize that, but I simply believe that Surfer has more power on tap. You can certainly argue that Clark has the edge but if I had to pick who has greater energy reserves, I'd point to Norrin personally.

Who said they were random? Let's not pretend Surfer's fire power is superior to what Superman's faced in the past. Superman can tank his attacks, they'll hurt, but his not going to fold fast by any means. He simply has the capabilities to defeat an average Surfer. His had enough feats of speed, durability and strength to argue he can use his superior physical capabilities to get to close range and outfight him.
Bill was doing fine until he was cheap shotted. And frankly, I don't think such a trick will work as well on Superman. 1) Clark's faster. 2) His more invulnerable.
I'm not trying to low sell Norrin here. It won't be easy by any means and Superman will be exhausted or f*cked but I give Clark around 6/10 here. It's a fight that could go almost either way.

I love how people think that hitting Bill is somehow the same as hitting Superman when Superman is about a million times faster.
And Bill is also neither as strong, nor as durable as Thor. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Thor has physically beaten the Surfer a number of times. And I think most people would agree that as far as feats go, Superman's strength and durability feats are more impressive than Thor's (of course Thor has other advantages over Superman). Also, the Surfer would have a limited speed advantage over Superman, and be at a disadvantage when it comes to combat speed....by quite a lot.
