It's all about the element of surprise.
She surprised a bunch of corny goons she killed em.
Red Mist surprised her and she got shot.

The focus he showed in the bar scene was absurd. Arnie Commando level absurd. Who cares what kind of weapons he used at the time.
Pistols are more accurate and would make it even easier in this setting.
