Superman is consistently portrayed as superior in combat to Darkseid; and is portrayed as superior to his universe's Quasar/Thor -> Green Lanterns/Wonder Woman, by a rather large margin.
Thor is portrayed as superior to his universe' Ares. Doesn't serve to reason that he'd be superior to DC's Ares...

You're right, high-end Green Lanterns are vastly more powerful than Quasar.

He owned Thor and Thing, Warrior Madness Thor with power gem, owned Fallen One and Surfer.
Although ABC logic is faulty in general Superman with CIS off will easily own Thor and Thing as well. Thor wasn't under WM (as stated in the comic) and the PG was never proven to boost his strength beyond 2x as much during the whole arc. Fallen one was a joke (and didn't even reach lightspeed during that short blitz) and so was Surfer. There is no way Surfer would lose to Thanos if he actually used his powers.
What keeps Thanos close to Superman is CIS for Superman. Thanos is a villain and doesn't suffer from CIS as much. But power for power (CIS off) Superman is superior to Thanos.
Thanos beat beings in comics because the writers want him too. Thanos doesn't beat beings in comics because HE ACTUALLY CAN.
For example, Surfer has FTL reflexes and can move with his board at flash like speeds. He can create black holes, shields, phase through attacks, manipulate matter easily, can amp in power, is strong enough to almost one shot Bill with a punch, etc.
Thanos realistically can't beat him. But he does, because of the plot, not because he really can.
