So according to the retcon, it is the Carbonadium that is killing him, and no longer his powers.

Any chance you have anything FROM X-Men #5-7 (1992) concerning Carbonadium and the C-Synthesizer?
That'd be helpful to this discussion, too ...

I don't know, I fell like this probably supersedes the original explanation, instead of compounding it. Either way it's convoluted.

Later on, it turns out that the carbonadium implants -- which hadn't been replaced for 30 years -- had corroded to the point where the "cure" (carbonadium) became just as lethal as the "disease" (his death spores). Like Captain Marvel's negabands when they inhibited all cancer treatment and mutated it.
Omega Red needs new, clean carbonadium to replace it, hence his recently desperate search for the C-Synthesizer.
Nothing's ever stated that suggests that the carbonadium's original purpose (inhibiting his death factor) was ever retconned. In fact, the corroded carbonadium was probably still serving that purpose otherwise he'd have been doubly screwed.

I find the whole thing convoluted. When Red first tangled with Team X during the Cold War, he was already after the C-Synth... but at that point in time the Carbonadium he had would have been "fresh"... so why wasn't the Carbonadium doing it's job then? He then gets frozen for 30 years, and it's the same deal when he gets thawed. So the implication would be that the Carbonadium was already corrupted... but then why doesn't Wolverine know that? And why would Red trade the C-Synth for a cure to the Carbonadium poisoning? Then he'd be back in the same boat he was in during the Cold War, where he didn't have a cure for his deathspores.
Someone should stream line this story.

The only thing we know is that the carbonadium itself had become lethal by the time he showed back up in Wolverine: Origins.

None of these questions you pose seem to relevant or even unanswerable, given a little bit of thought.

I didn't say the questions couldn't be answered, I said the situation was convoluted... and it is.

The entire run lasted 50 issues. Carbonadium's radioactivity was mentioned and shown multiple times. Last W😮 comics were released in 2010, OR returned in those and cured himself off-panel after acquiring c-synth.
Consider your trolling attempt thwarted.

Either way, Doc Ock is covered in the very material that specifically inhibits Omega Red's death spores. This talk about whether it's real carbonadium or not (because it wasn't radioactive) is completely irrelevant. On-panel, it's carbonadium. The death spores route is, at best, a real longshot.
Physically, I don't see Omega Red defeating Doc Ock. Four carbonadium arms is better than two and Doc Ock has proven to possess incredible finesse with them. He's also more armored.

Also, didn't Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Wolverine find Omega Red locked up after all that stuff happened? And he'd been locked up for a while, being experimented on and was just fine without the C-Synth or even anybody to keep him charged.
And it's the Carbonadium implanted in his body that helps with the spores, but he still has to release them or they hurt him. Nobody is safe from his spores, even Iron Man in his fully sealed suit would probably be in trouble.

No, it (Brubaker's Uncanny) happened before that.
After dealing with the carbonadium poisoning, Omega Red was described as being more powerful than ever.

Character needs Object A, because they can use it to create Object B, Object B is the only thing that can save them from Object C, Object C is killing them. They already have Object B, but it's killing them, Object C is still also killing them, but they still need Object A. Object A can be traded for a cure for Object B, Object A still needed to cure Object C.
If you wrote that novel, your editor is giving you some notes. 😆
Originally posted by srankmissingninThat first underlined Object B eventually corroded. They need a new uncorroded Object B. Like I said, how you can't connect the dots here is truly baffling.

And that second underlined part was already addressed. New uncorroded Object B isn't going to help much when it eventually corrodes leaving him in the same situation he was in. So yea, Omega Red probably would be in the market for a permanent cure and not just a stopgap measure. This isn't rocket science. Your confusion is misplaced and irrelevant.
This strikes me more as you wanting to stay confused than anything else. Like you're trying to force some quantum of doubt on what is an open/shut case: Doc Ock is on-panel covered in the very stuff that on-panel inhibits Omega Red's death spores.

You are aware that nothing you are saying is a counter point to my saying its convoluted? The addition of Object B's corrosion is a pointless addition to the mythos. Why add it? Omega Red is already after the C-Synth. He already needs it to save his life. It makes no sense to add this second reason, especially when it perverts the original reason he needed... without resolving that issue... so he still also needs it for the original reason... which is the cause of this new second reason. It's a mess. It's convoluted. If Omega Red had been cured of his Deathspore affliction, this could have been a serviceable plot device to return to the status quo, but that's not the case. As it stands this was a messy addition that served no purpose.
Any competent writer (or someone who reads) can and will tell you that this is whole thing is pointless and contrived. I'm not sure what you are getting up in arms about.
Originally posted by srankmissingninWho cares why they added it (other than the obvious answer that they wanted Omega Red to be more desperate and perhaps more dangerous)?

You're clinging to this now-feigned sense of confusion -- a sense of confusion that should have evaporated completely when I posted the scan and explained exactly why Omega Red now desperately needed the C-Synthesizer despite already having carbonadium implants.
In the end, I don't care why you're doing it. It's pointless.

It doesn't stop his spores like that. They will still get to Ock. Nothing so far has stopped his spores when he's released them.
