Doctor Octopus vs Omega Red

Who cares why they added it (other than the obvious answer that they wanted Omega Red to be more desperate and perhaps more dangerous)?

You're clinging to this now-feigned sense of confusion -- a sense of confusion that should have evaporated completely when I posted the scan and explained exactly why Omega Red now desperately needed the C-Synthesizer despite already having carbonadium implants.

In the end, I don't care why you're doing it. It's pointless. Frankly, the accuracy of your flat statements of fact throughout this thread leaves something to be desired. When you actually have proof for your assertion, let me know.

What are you going on about? I said it was convoluted... and it is convoluted. Do you not know what the word convoluted means? Confusion doesn't factor into this at all, and I'm not really sure why you keep explain things that are clear to everyone. If I was giving you directions, and I said: go one block north, one block west, one north, one block east, then half a block south, that's pretty easy to fallow. It's not particularly confusing or complicated... but it is when you realize I could have said go a block and a half north, and that's it. Convoluted connotes a needless level of intricacy that serves no purpose. This addition to the Omega Red mythology is convoluted.

You need to broaden your personality and pick up some character traits that extend beyond being a contrarian.

I do know what convoluted means. Omega Red discovering that the carbonadium implants are also killing him and him being even more desperate to find the C-Synthesizer is not convoluted. I'm inviting you to step outside of yourself for a second and understand why I find your confusion both baffling and unflattering. Consider this:

In a new Thor story, Grey Gargoyle finds out that his stone powers are now precipitously deteriorating and that the golden apples of Idunn (which he's long sought for their gift of immortality) also offer a chance to restore his powers or at least could be traded to Doctor Doom for a cure.

You think Rage.Of.Olympus is going to throw up his arms in frustration and whine, "OMG, that's not why Grey Gargoyle was always obsessed with finding the apples of Idunn! He wanted them for their gift of immortality in like every single appearance! Whaaaa-?! So now the golden apples of Idunn don't offer immortality, they can only cure/restore depowering?! I so confused now. Why they add this new mythos in -- it so unnecessary!!!11"

This is basically what you're doing right now. And it's completely absurd. If you want to remain confused, fine. It ultimately has no relevance to the matchup in this thread and the implications provided by Ock's carbonadium armor.

It most certainly is convoluted. It's a completely unnecessary addition, Red was already dying, he already utterly obsessed with finding the C-Synth to save his life, there was no need to make this revision. I'm not sure why you keep reciting "Omega Red discovering that BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH," like you think that has any baring on the whether or not it is convoluted or not. I know what he discovered, that isn't the issue, the issue is whether or not it is convoluted... and it is... which is why I said that it was. It was a completely pointless plot contrivance that didn't do anything for the character. If it had never been brought up he would be in the exact same spot anyway looking for the exact same object for essentially the same reason... what the hell would you call that if not convoluted? Succinct?

Dude, I simply stated "it's convoluted either way," or something there about. I didn't "throw my hands up in frustration and whine." What I said was completely innocuous... and would have been a one off statement if I was dealing with anyone else but you. Here we are though, you've decided to make a whole thing about it, like you always do, and we are having another pointless debate because you've decided to get up in arms about nothing... again.

Also the Grey Gargoyle example isn't the same. That is a retcon that could serve to make him more sympathetic. Those motives are more approachable then someone who merely wants to live for ever. Whether you like it or not, it actually serves a purpose.

Your attempt to elaborate your reasoning has only further exposed the absurdity of your objection. Call it what it is then, unnecessary and pointless. But not convoluted. Because it isn't hard to understand -- nor is it pointless unless you just completely ignore the enhanced desperation Omega Red now possessed.

This discussion is pointless but it's not my fault. I've already pointed out how pointless this is multiple times in order to shut this inane conversation down. I'd guess that part of you is finally understanding the absurdity of keeping up this charade. So I'll leave you with your revisionist history on how you haven't been frantically straining to convince me or anyone that there's some confusion here and that you were the one who's been repeatedly saying this is all ultimately pointless anyway.

What don't you get?! It's not even a retcon! It's just a new element to make him more desperate than usual while chasing after the same old macguffin that the character is always associated with! Christ, you're trying to even twist my example as a retcon? LOL

I did call it what it was, and what it was was convoluted. If I wanted to use the word pointless, or needless, then I would have. If I wanted to call it confusing (which is what you apparently think convoluted means), then I would have. I didn't. I choose the word convoluted for a reason, acknowledging not just the denotative meaning of the word, but connotations that come with it. I'm sorry if your sophomoric understanding of linguistics is not up to par with my own.

Revisionist history? Dude, feel free to go back an look at the events that led to where we are now. You - as usual - have been the driving force behind this entire topic of discussion. I said it was convoluted. Which you decided to take umbrage with. I didn't make this an issue, you did. I wasn't making a big deal out of it, I'm still not, I simple stated - mater of factually - that the audition was convoluted... and it was.

I wasn't trying to make it out to me anything other then the way you presented it to be. It read to me like you were saying that Gargoyles reasoning for the Apple was retcon'd, and I don't remember the example you are talking (he hasn't shown up since Fear Itself, so the "new" Thor comic you are talking about isn't that new) about so that's the way I took it. If it's just a pile on to reason he wants the Apple, then yes it starts to become convoluted. He needs the Apple because it will make him immortal, oh but also he is losing his powers and it could fix that! Well... isn't that convenient? Just a punch of needless additions to his motivations that leave him in the exact same place he started. Why even bother.

Saying you're being accurate doesn't prove it. The new revelation that Omega Red's carbonadium implants are corroded and also killing him is not "extremely complex and difficult to follow" or "intricately folded, twisted, or coiled." There is no connotation or colloquial nuance available here for you to save your absurd protestations that you're utterly confused by this minor plot point because you're not.

I know exactly what led us here. You refusing to let go if this pretense of confusion over an utterly clear plot point that was explained in a single scan. Even after I told you repeatedly that it's both baffling and pointless.

No. I just presented another reason that Grey Gargoyle wanted the golden apple that added an extra layer of desperation for him to search for something he was already searching for every time he shows up on-panel. In the end, it's definitely not a retcon because it hasn't rendered anything previously established non-canon, i.e., Grey Gargoyle still has stone powers, Grey Gargoyle has still always hunted for the golden apples, the golden apples still bestow immortality. It's not needlessly complicated. It's not hard to understand. Accordingly, it isn't convoluted (nor is it pointless).

But I'm not here to improve your grasp of the English language. Because you're just pretending you don't understand how this charade's been deconstructed. And I've no interest in getting you to admit it. Your denial speaks volumes. Particularly when it is on such a needlessly tangential and minor plot contrivance.

facepalm

Clearly you don't understand the difference between denotative and connotative meaning.

Do you have any Post Secondary ODG?

Do you have a point here or are you just trying to invent some colloquial usage of "convoluted" to pretend that your usage of the word isn't both completely inaccurate and unnatural?

Don't ask me personal questions, please.

Omega Red wins before the fight turns into a weird Japanese tentacle rape scene.
