DCU gets remade - all books are #1s, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee on Justice League, more

Seriously, they had the chance to alleviate a lot of concern/criticism with this, and they basically just hyped each other and Grant Morrison up while telling us stuff we already knew wrapped in slightly different (and live!) verbal wrapping.

Grant Morrison fails at hype. I still remember his hyping of Final Crisis and what it would do to Superman and Batman, and how Darkseid would get so elevated - but he failed to deliver.

Who cares? Hal is weaksauce.

(Methinks he's the protagonist of the Green Lantern title)

you might be right

Well, I'm looking foward for Stormwatch, Hawkman, Nightwing and maybe Action Comics. JLA International crew sounds good, but I'd like some Outsiders too.

This is good since my interest in current Marvel comics is diminished, now that they are killing off/canceling the few characters I liked that were in the spotlight...

No JL Dark?

i don't think he did.

The new promo for the relaunch of Teen Titans. I kind of like Robin and Flash, but the rest look....does Connor have a napkin on his back?!

facepalm

This shit fails on so many levels.

Well, I suppose this is a good thing somewhat:

Still, it feels like DC is cherry picking canon to a large degree, looking like it's keeping the GL/Batman stuff mostly intact, and revamping mostly everything else.

- DC confirmed that stories like Blackest Night, Brightest Day, Identity Crisis, Death in the Family, and Killing Joke are still part of the DCU history. In fact, editors said, some events in those stories are specifically referenced in September.

It seems to be the same with the whole "everybody's younger thing", there's basically no consensus about the level of how much younger everyone is. Superman started 5 years ago, but Batman still has a son and has been through all his adventures and Nightwing still has grown from being Robin as a kid up to being Batman and back to Nightwing again.

but even within the Batman line, Gail Simone seemed to be emphasising the whole "people are younger" thing in her Newsarama interview...

Same thing goes for the fact there's been enough time for four Earth lanterns + the destruction of the corps and Sinestro, Blackest Night etc... Although I wonder if Geoff will use this as a way to make Hal even more perfect by retconing the destruction away. Which would be awful, but very Johns.

Basically, everyone just seems to be doing whatever they want in regards to everyone being younger.

It wouldn't be a retcon if it made sense.

I must say, all this sounds interesting.

They must be smoking some good stuff at DC, so now they say certain past events happened, right....... So how does that play out when now certain key characters in those past events no longer exist or will have no logical way of being in the events according to the new timeline and ages?

Yup as much as I love DC, I'm calling it now this whole thing will be stillborn on arrival.

We don't know what events will no longer happened. The latest interview suggest that a lot of it won't be erased.

An interesting take on why the decline in DC comics quality may or may not be tied to the impending reboot:
http://www.multiversitycomics.com/2011/06/multiversity-101-from-dcu-to-dcnu.html

^ it's kinda sad really. they make it seem like this reboot is a death throw..which it very well could be.

most people think they should just make an ultimates series of titles for the main characters plus a team book (or two), but the dc staff is basically saying the new earth universe is compost. yikes

There is no need for it to be ultimized, because a good chunk of it wont be changed. The main change will be superman, but that is because of the leagal issues. also, adding wildstorm is no different when they aquired charlton characters and fawcett.

Just market your quality stuff and don't cancel it, if you want to sell comic books. The problem is that DC wants to sell his properties -Superman, Batman, WW- and they are quite stuck with their respective storytelling. They should probably try to mainstream a new rooster of iconics characters instead of sticking to the proverbial death horse -in a way, Supes and the crew are stable, but stability sucks in a media that lives and dies with it's marketing-.

The reboot still seems like a good idea, even if it was a death throw. The Image comparision gives me the chills though.
