Yeah, Perez's Superman might have been on the below average side, but it was selling well iirc.

Also, Morrison leaving, I think was a surprise to most people.

Rob was hired because he can handle multiple books at once reliably and quickly. They *just* gave him multiple books before he cut ties. He's also known as being easy to work with.

And Perez quit due to having to constantly revise stuff and having to work around not knowing what other Superman people were doing. He's a long time industry pro's pro.

George Perez was on Superman with good sales. Almost Gail Simone, her Batgirl is one of the big successes of the relaunch sales wise.

And most of the premier titles are Morrison, Snyder, and Johns, so that's not saying much when you're not talking many writers.

Most other writers are ending up with pretty short runs and a lot of switching around, it seems, and have to put up with more revisions. If you have to do that, well, duh no wonder sales aren't great.

But several are just quitting due to repeated conflicting orders from bosses. Others were replaced when they had reasonable sales and before there was any way to judge long-term stability (Ron Marz).

That is certainly one of the reasons, but Rob quoted by saying they took him in, because they thought the titles could raise sells and it did, but not by much. IIRC, he stated this in his rant and talked shit to Snyder on Twitter, so I could care less about Liefeld.

Perez's Superman was received pretty badly in reviews and shed quite a bit of readers, so it wasn't a hit. It sold well, because it was Superman and that it was a relaunch. Most titles started out well, so that's not really saying much. Scott Lobdell's Superman is MUCH better. In fact, most of the replacements on titles like Stormwatch, Deathstroke, Layman, Hurwitz, and soon to be Lemire on GA.

Lobdell's Superman only got really good in the last issue, so it's not like he's been knocking them out consistently.

I disagree. I've been liking all of his issues and are much stronger than Perez's stint. Not that I dislike him as a creator, but the general consensus is that it was boring.

Lobdell's first couple of issues were tbh, poor in terms of his characterisation of Superman.

His last issue is really the first one where he seemed to get a handle on the character. At least H'el is an interesting villain.

Certainly a lot better than any of the ones in the previous issues. I can't even remember the other villains. 😉

And he wrote Helspoint better as well.

Nobody's disputing that H'el is a decent villain.

His Superman just needed work, and thankfully in the last issue he got it. Whether that continues or not...

I don't even like H'el all that much. I'm more interested in Lobdell's bigger plan. Or the big plot he hinted at the beginning of his run.

if he keeps improving the way he has done, i think it'll be another good year for Superman. Just have to see if Diggle's promise also delivers.

I will again mention Perez wasn't fired, he quit because he kept having to re-do stuff as various higher ups changed their mind and making him re-do art and stories and had to write around a story he didn't know the contents of.

Point is, a good deal of writers there have put up with a lot of crap from the bosses.

Welcome to the world of corporate. 🙂

Things get re written all the time. Sucks, but it comes with the territory.

Many huge companies don't treat their writers like crap, it's what I like to call an american quirk 131

Every boss is different, yes, but all my family members work for big corporations and I have worked as a contractor for corporations and pretty much everyone hates their job, so it's pretty common.

Good news for Red Hood. Tynion will be taking over. I'm digging his Talon book so far.

Here are some of the covers for Holy Shit month. Most of the covers are characters looking off the right for some reason.

New Aquaman cover.

Beowulf in Justice League? I'm pretty sure that is his sword.

Superman

Orion in Wonder Woman

Death of the Rainbow Corps?

What makes those covers so 'holy shitty'?

That info has not been released yet.

First look at Starlins new series. Definitely sci-fi.

Not really an excuse, especially when it wasn't always that way at DC.

The fact that Gail Simone was re-hired due to her legion of fangirls bitchin' is simply astonishing to me, as far as DC's management is concerned.
