DCU gets remade - all books are #1s, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee on Justice League, more

Mostly no surprises- I doubt anyone here's going to shed a tear for Firestorm or Savage Hawkman. Heck, did anyone know Firestorm was still coming out?

But among them, and more surprisingly, is Sword of Sorcery, the Amethyst book (issue #7 will be the last- right now it's on 5).

That attempt to get female readers certainly didn't last long! They didn't even wait to see how the collections did.

Female readers often transfer over from manga and like digest formats, resulting in high sales there. That's in large part how Marvel's Spider-girl stayed around for 130 issues despite having quite low-but-steady comic sales.

Damn, I Vampire and Sword of Sorcery are among the only books I avidly read and enjoy in DC. Hate to see them go. 🙁 However, I'm sure Amethyst will be sticking around in JLD, so that's a plus I guess.

Heck, now I think JLD will be the only DC book I read consistently. I feel... Empty.

What? They're not cancelling Aquaman! 😛

They're lucky.

Did you see this, PR?

HMMMMMM...

It could either be excellent, or a complete disaster. I believe in Gail Simone, though.

Yeah, Simone makes me curious about it. Probably a carcrash waiting to happen though.

Just read the Valentines issue:

Catwoman story: Utter shite bar Bruce's "lesson" to her at the end.
Aquaman/Mera: Below average. Instantly forgettable.
Batgirl: Passable.
Nightwing: Probably the best of the bunch, only for how bad you feel for Dick at the end, which I hope gets explained at some point.
Superman/Diana: For a story that will probably get forgotten down the line, they made some pretty big statements.

All in all, a generally poor issue, though if there was one real highlight, it was some of the cards at the end. Most were corny as shit, but this one literally had me laughing out loud:

That one is good indeed 😂

We should totally do romantic comic memes

"Whoever lifts this hammer will have the love of Thor"

Damn I literally just started subscribing to Sword of Sorcery.

I'm guessing Dial H and The Phantom Stranger probably aren't too safe either?

Quick question, out of these titles are these basically all pretty much guaranteed not to ever get cancelled: justice league, aquaman, the flash, wonder woman, detective comics, batman, action comics, superman, green lantern, stormwatch, animal man, swamp thing, justice elague dark, and demon knights?

Those are all the ones I subscribe to.

Have you tried Animal Man or Swamp Thing? I get the impression these are the best out of all the dark titles. Oh as well as the upcoming Constantine.

They better not touch the Phantom Stranger!!!!!! I enjoy the PS action every month! It's to bad about I Vampire, maybe if they did a better job at advertising it, it would have sold more. Maybe add a couple first pages of I Vampire into the back part a few of the more popular comics in DC would have helped? Shazam has a few pages in JL and people love it, I'm sure it wouldn't have hurt. 😬

Oh God I hope he can go back to the way he was.

He does more in a single issue now than in his entire history previously. That's not how the Phantom Stranger works. If you want to show off some badass moves, pick someone else.

And, of course, they've removed the intrigue as to who or what he is by basically telling us point blank in the first panel.

Everything that he was, everything that made him unique and different, has been replaced by painfully obvious fanservice. RIP 🙁

Fanservice usually implies that you're giving fans something they want. In this case...

I think they have left a little bit of room to go back to what he was like before the new 52, him and The Spectre go back and forth about his pretend family. He still does have a mysteriousness about him, which is cool. I think its something they have to do in order to keep readers tho (about the badass moves).

I was going to buy The Phantom Stranger #1 1969 on eBay, I knew it would be valuable but people are asking a lot for it! He's a popular guy!

I can't reassure you on that whole lost.

Stormwatch and Demon Knights are probably going to be on the next wave of cancelations judging by their low sales. Dial H and Phantom Stranger are both doing better than them, and in turn aren't in the safe zone, but I suspect have a bit more time.

JLDark, Animal Man, and Swamp thing are doing pretty good and are safe for now but they're not guaranteed long-haul.

Kept up with them for the first 5(or so) issues, but ultimately dropped them. Animal Man in particular was just too bizarre for me to appreciate. Swamp Thing(who is one of my favorite characters in comics) was just too different in the new 52 than he was in old DC for me to appreciate him nearly as much.

Seems like anything I enjoy gets cancelled. 🙁

See, I'm actually enjoying PS for what it is... And I really didn't think I'd like it at all.

Strangely enough, I'm actually somewhat enjoying it too. I think that's part of why I hate it so.

The character has lost everything that made him what he was. I think that's undeniable.

Agreed on Supes/Diana's story.

Cyborg's card was hilarious.

I sort of liked Batgirl's story. only because I could relate to the guy being all over Batgirl. Dem statuesque girls dressed as giant bats. Damn the Bat Family overwhelms everything. A Bat, Batgirl and Nightwing story in the same book.

lol. Yeah, the batgirl one was all right. And it'll continue in her book, which is cool.

Nice!
