This whole thing with editorial sticking their noses in is really starting to grate. They're not there to dictate stories. They're there to make sure the writer is doing his job.
Exactly! The line editor makes sure the general direction is set too, but that's something done at the beginning *with* the writer, it's not micromanaging.

I think it's no coincidence that DC's best comics all tend to come from writers who are given a wide berth.
I can literally see someone like johns or Morrison laughing in the face of an editor trying to tell them what to do.

Indeed.
Compare to Marvel, where they get all their writers together, say, "Ok, we're all at point A. You need to get to point B in X amount of time. How you do that is up to you, now go do your thing." There's strong editorial presence, but they do it in a way that doesn't trip up the writers and lets them use their voice.
DC has great writers, if they had marvel-style editorial they could've really soared.

Well, Johns pretty much is one of the bosses, but yea, I can totally see Morrison laughing ^^

Superman has also gotten pretty good since Lobdell and Beganza came on board.
👆
I really liked H'el on Earth. Though I still have to get the Supergirl/boy tie ins which REALLY pissed me off as I thought the story wouldn't jump too much without reading them, though I still got the main gist of everything.
Really looking forward to Orion and Superman throwing down.

Same. Should be good, and any kind of showing for Orion will do wonders for him when taking Superman's feats in to consideration.

Yeah, though I expected it to be better, tbh. It felt like he was trying too hard to wrap everything up.
Same. Though, I really liked his take on Doomsday. Thought it was a neat and albeit radical spin on the character, but when the heat vision melted his face mask and revealed his visage, the fanboy in me was like "What you did there, I see it" lol

Did anyone read the last Aquaman? Ice King or whatever his name is looks col.
Yeah, it wasn't bad.
Well, Superdoom/Doomsday, to me, seemed to be a commentary on society wanting things to be "edgy" and "hip", and he was basically a brand that people wore and put on their products and was "badass". But he lacked humanity and just winded up becoming a monster than destroyed everything and was constantly growing more unstoppable by the thought.
Again, very Morrison-y, but in this case, I think it worked out, especially when they revealed his face and it looked like the classic Doomsday we're all familiar with.

Oh that. Yeah, I suppose I can see that.
