DCU gets remade - all books are #1s, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee on Justice League, more

Started by JakeTheBank367 pages

So, I currently read and have issues #0/#1 - current of the following titles:

Action Comics
Superman
Justice League
Justice League of America

I'm going to get Superman: Unchained and Batman/Superman when it comes out as well, but I was looking to possibly getting a couple of more titles. I'm debating between Aquaman, Wonder Woman, World's Finest, and Earth-2 (I've heard it's actually gotten better). Any suggestions?

I'd recommend World's Finest or Aquaman of those.

World's Finest sucks. Sorry, Q. It has some decent issues, but kind of boring. Just like his LOSH. WW was one of the best titles last year (top 100 lists) and still continues to be quality. Earth 2 and Aquaman are awesome as well.

I kinda want to get into both World's Finest and Earth-2 because I'm a fan of Power Girl and I like the JSA (radically changed as they are). Plus, they're shedding light on Apokolips and the New Gods and I want to keep up to date with any developments on that front.

On the flip side, I really enjoyed every Aquaman book I've read since the relaunch and I'm a pretty big Wonder Woman fan and have heard nothing but good things from both of those titles.

Hell, I'll probably get all four at some point or another.

Fair enough.

Wonder Woman has some good writing and cool ideas, but also some dumb moves that have caused controversy.

For example, the entire Amazon culture reproduces by kidnapping, raping and killing men, then trading any male children that resulted into slavery to Hephastus, so one of the few female-societies in comics is full villain. Additionally, Diana lived with them into her 20s without ever learning how her civilization reproduced or felt about slavery and grew up with 180 different ethics to everyone around her including her mother somehow, so it's a giant plot hole.

Also, know how her old origin, she was badass because she was trained by Amazons and blessed by goddesses and Hermes? Well now she's badass because she was trained by Ares and is daughter of Zeus. So the female icon who was empowered by mostly women now has an almost exclusively male list of power-sources.

And Orion's a sexist jerk, not a fan of that either...

It's like, two thirds of this stuff isn't even plot-centric, it wouldn't have taken much editing to eliminate most of them while keeping the plot intact, but yea, I have a list of things that I and quite a few others can complain about in it.

In comparison, the biggest complain I've heard on Aquaman is, "Soooo, why, in universe, did anyone think this guy's a joke? Because he's badass enough that it's hard to see why they'd think so!"

I think Earth 2 is a steaming pile for the most part, and I haven't read all of Wonder Woman, so definitely Aquaman (though i'd pick that either way; it's my favourite DC book right now).

It's the best Aquaman's been since Peter David.

Earth 2 will be showing Captain Steel! And he's Filipino! 😛

Can't wait.

Meet Earth 2's Batman.

Interesting costume.

Starlin's Stormwatch. Not too bad. Looks like Skywatch is powered by a pocket universe.

News about Batman Year Zero and Superman Unchained:

I only read Wonder Woman 1-7, but I personally thought it was garbage. They had a lot of good ideas but the execution was terrible (IMO).

Justice League Dark only got good once the new writer took over on issue 9 and it's been an interesting ride.

Aquaman is, IMO, second best book out of DC right after the main Batman title which has been superb.

Looks like Barda and Miracle will be back. And Creeper in Katana. Sweet.

Ah, Dark. That was one of the fastest 'looks great-to drop' turns I've ever had.

"The first issue was cool! I look forward to the characters coming together as a team over the next couple issues!"

"... you seriously spent the second issue breaking up a relationship that didn't have to exist in the post-reboot verse at all and we have no reason to care about, while barely touching on the characters in the previous issue. Seriously."

I loved the begining of Justice League Dark. It's not your typical super hero book, which a lot of people didn't like, but it was unique. Same with WW.

Now, JLD is all super hero and a lot different from Milligan's run. I prefer Milligan's.

And it looks like Hector Hammond will be "Onslaught level" in terms of telepathic abilities.

Strongly disagree. I love Wonder Woman. IMO, it tops even Batman as the best comic DC is putting out right now.

Who's writing Wonder Woman?

Brian Azz.

Volthoom just merged with the Great Heart. Supposedly he can control all of reality now. Should be interesting on how the lanterns stop him.

Some nice interviews on Comicvine.

JM DeMatteis talks about Phantom Stranger and Larfleeze. It's nice seeing Giffen and DeMatteis taking the Larfleeze book at the edge of the universe and beyond. From his words, we'll be seeing a big, cosmic book, which is awesome.

Jim Lee and Snyder talk about Superman.

Sounds encouraging enough @ Unchained. I just hope they're not going to forget that Superman isn't with Lois in this book.
