I like Lemire's Vertigo. He's friggen crazy and demented.
Lemire's Vertigo is a whiny and incredibly stupid little b1tch.
As I said before
1) he doesn't fly anymore (why? because Lemirre prolly watched Nolan's trilogy to many time's and got infected with "realism", ooooh progressive)
2) his implant is now in a very obvious and exploitable spot, basically a target for anyone to see.
3) he has no martial skill whatsoever (unlike his previous incarnation where he was trained by Suicide Squad and Checkmate-heck he was training Checkmate agents)
4) he is stupid, like really stupid (when he went to the middle of a city trying to draw Green Arrow out without any plan whatsoever)
5) he FOLDS LIKE A PAPER TOWEL in the slightest physical combat (basically every time someone make's contact he goes down like-again- a b1tch.
6) his men laugh behind his back, instead of respecting his leadership (like before)
7) his costume is meh and he lost his b1tchin cape for some hipster tattoos and a generic mommy complex.
8) he is underling to a bigger villain (in his first appearance GA's best villain is reduced to hired help as revealed later, LOL what?)
New Count Vertigo is comically ineffective, he is not threatening AT ALL for a superhero, he is ridiculously depowered and a disgrace to the title of archvillain.
Here's what Count Vertigo used to do when he fought New Gods.
The Count would pull a New God knife from his gutt and proceed to drop Kanto, dissing on the New Gods skills while dropping epic oneliners.
Current Vertigo would drop in a fetal position and cry the moment the got on Apokolips, until someone tripped over him and killed him accidentally (but hey the artwork would be good).
And now in the slightest sign of physical pain, he drops to his knees and waits to get killed or arrested or have his RIDICULOUS implant ripped from his skull, like the good little b1tch he is.
People get fooled by the current artwork. That artwork would make Kiteman look bad@ss. Take that away and current Count Vertigo is even more of a b1tch, since there's nothing to hide how bad he is at what he is doing.

Very nice 🙂And in the more recent Checkmate series, while he never quite pulled off something like that, he was still a very respectable character.
Exactly.
FFS he temporarily took out Superman and Aquaman in Suicide Squad and owned every other metahuman he usually fought like the Force of July, he oneshot Catwoman, Abra Cadabra, Metamorpho while undercover for Checkmate(!!!), Bane, Peacemaker, Isis (!), took out entire squadrons of fighter jets and owned Bolt, Blockbuster and even Black Alice.
And has at least one win over Green Arrow.
And he was one of the elite Royals in Checkmate.
Because of his involvement with Suicide Squad and Checkmate actually he probably had one of the best win/loose records for any DC villain.
And now he is a disgrace compared to what he was.
So in the DCnU, the Source is the reservoir for the emotional spectrum:

Makes sense considering that the emotional spectrum "fuels the universe":

Point is: Kyle /w/ all emotional entities bonded to himself=the Source=ALL energy in the universe. 👆

Anyway, the conclusion of 'Lights Out', while more abrupt than I'd expected, was still pretty well done, imo.
ARGUS #1 was also promising, and the artwork in the ST Annual was jaw-dropping.

New Vertigo isn't a physical opponent anyway. His Vertigo powers seemed to have increased.
Well every time a writer goes out of his way to depower a character it nearly always ends bad.
This is no exception
And lol no his vertigo powers haven't increased. No matter how "cool" they might look due to the artwork they are still quite ineffectual since Green Arrow managed to power through the effect and pawn the sorry excuse for a villain. Pre Flashpoint Vertigo managed ti take out characters like Metamorpho and Black Alice.
In other news Aquaman (with some help from the Others) pawned Morganne Lefay in the Aquaman Annuall 1, further improving his path of ownage through the New 52.
Pretty fun and pure adventure action packed story, a huge improvement compared to Aquaman 20 for Johns Ostrander.
It read like a Suicide Squad self contained mission and that's an excellent thing.
Ovearall if Ostrander gets a second Aquaman ongoing with the Others, I'm all for it, but Aquaman has to be in the book as a regular member. Fortunately if this issue is an indication that will be the case.

In all fairness to DCnU Vertigo, this was his very first appearance-- which is likely why his Mk. 1-level tech, and overall characterization, were so crude. I'm sure we'll see him evolve into a far more dangerous/cunning character with each subsequent appearance.
True, but so far Lemirre has done nothing to indicate that he's willing to depart from the Nolanesque and TV Arrowesque realism that clearly his series is based on.
This might work overall for this series, but he has to make room for the more "pure superhero" stuff, and Count Vertigo falls into this category.
As it stands now I have no hope whatsoever on Lemirre's depiction of the character and hope Ostrander get's to write him again as he is supposed to be.

Originally posted by comicfan11No he doesn't, not really. DCnU seems to be transforming CV exclusively into a Green Arrow rogue-- and imo, a Green Arrow rogue has no business contending with top-tiers like Superman, Aquaman, New Gods, etc. Again: CV is now playing the role of a street-level antagonist, and that's how we must take him regardless of his pre-Flashpoint characterization.

CV will almost certainly be much more formidable the next time we see him, but he's not going to be cranking out massively high-end feats, like he did in the days of old, anytime soon... Unless future writers have him transcend the bounds of a street-level foe, of course(which is very doubtful, atm.)
Remember, he's not the first character to be neutered in the DCnU, and probably won't be the last. Just be happy he's at least part of a superb series-- something that definitely cannot be said about Firestorm, of whom the DCnU utterly destroyed. 🙁
