Underwater or not, I don't think any version of Aquaman should be able to beat guys like Phantom Stranger(who stalemated Spectre), Constantine and Swamp Thing... So I sincerely hope the cover is false.

Didn't even notice Phantom Stranger.
Yeah I agree.
Although Constantine unpreped in a straight fight can be taken down on account of his human stats IMO.

True, although when is Constantine ever unprepped? 😛

Note that every one of those heroes were directly shown, and/or visited by J'onn at some point during the issue.... Except for Aquaman.

That said, I think Arthur might be....

Spoiler:
posing as the Sea King!?!?

Apparently

Spoiler:
Darkseid and his forces
were powerful enough to tool the CSA, and conqueror Earth 3(as well as Krypton.) Interesting...

On top of that, the hooded fella the CSA brought with them from Earth 3 is of such importance that Owlman states: "We HAVE to save him" before they fled that universe. Curious... Very curious.

And finally, we get to see a bit of the Ultraman/Black Adam battle... Not looking good for Adam, atm.

*JLD:
Okay issue. Just building toward the Blight affair, is all.

*Red Lanterns:
God-powered Kyle states he has enough power to defeat Relic. However, he doesn't want to defeat Relic, he wants to help him. To do this he evidently needs to

Spoiler:
destroy the Source Wall.

JL was great. Johns delivers.
JLD was a little calm before the upcoming madness. It was ok.

But holy $hit Johns basically "Green Lanternized" (in the best way) the entire Aquaman mythos.
The issue reveals the backstory of Atlantis, the Dead King's (and his identity), another ancient Aquaman character (from a certain miniseries written by PAD), and the first glimpse for the new 52 version of a classic Aquaman villain.

Johns upcoming last issue has the potential to be the single greatest Aquaman comic ever, after the world building in this issue.
Just epic stuff.

While I haven't cared for some of the decisions Johns has made over the years(mostly on the GL side of things) there's no denying that the man can write a damn good story-- Trinity War was great, and Forever Evil has been excellent thus far. Aside from Johns-related arcs, 'Lights Out' has also been extremely enjoyable, and I have no doubt whatsoever that the Blight arc will be superb as well.

Can't say that I've ever enjoyed this many back-to-back arcs.

I'd say he is akin to a "Comic book James Cameron".
He will not write something like Sandman, but when he goes blockbuster mode and puts some effort he produces some of the best pure superhero comics.
Obviously his Green Lantern saga is Terminator 2.
And he writes some of the best villains ever, making it look soooo easy.

JL and Aquaman were excellent this week.

Red Lanterns was also solid

Oh, wow. Batwoman.

The cliffhanger of the last issue of the run of the old writer/artist team. This is where DC cut them off.

Because nobody said Talon and Larfleeze. Both fun books this week. I think DC is stronger than ever. Most of their lines have been quality.

Larfleeze is ok, it was more fun in the first couple issues and now the novelty of the silliness is wearing off some.

Also kinda weird that he's facing cosmic beings from the prior universe while the main Lantern storyline is facing Relic from the prior universe

They will cancel most of them, sadly.

Talon is, and has consistently been, great. I can't stand the Larfleeze series, though... Maybe it's the artwork, maybe it's the dialogue, but I find it cheesy as phuck.

Aquaman Annual preview

http://www.newsarama.com/19391-aquaman-gets-his-first-new-52-annuual.html

seems nice, done by the great John Ostrander with pencils by the artist who did the Ocean Master issue.
And it's probably not tied with any of the ongoing stories so it should be a fun oneshot.

If this sells well, AQUAMAN GETS A SECOND ONGOING SO MAKE IT HAPPEN PEOPLE!
Show the King some love.

A second ongoing? I'm an Arthur Curry fan, but he doesn't need or want a second ongoing. Too much of a good thing can definitely be a bad thing.

There was a rumor of a Others series. Wouldn't mind that.

Preview of Pandora meeting with Outsider.

Honestly even if it lasts a single arc I'm looking forward to it, because of the fact that the hero (undeservedly) that gets the most flak by the dumb sheep that base their opinions on Family $hit and Big Bang Theory gets a second ongoing.

Something like a middle finger to them.
Just for the lulz.
