It does seem rather odd, but I can understand it at the same time.
Yeah, I understand why as well.
It does raise some questions though. Do we count Brightest Day and Blackest Night? Return of Bruce Wayne? And if so, to what degree? Obviously some aspects are different with some characters likely not even existing.
Final Crisis must've happened, otherwise Dick wouldn't have replaced Bruce, who wouldn't have been time-hopping and wouldn't have built Batman Inc. (both having been referenced in Batman & Robin and Nightwing respectively), not to mention the fact that there's a direct sequel, at least as far as the New Gods are concerned and their Earth #51 lives in Multiversity, out next year.
It's Didio afterall, so I'm going to wait until the writers actually having written and continuing those stories make it clear that they didn't happen (when right now they're doing exactly the opposite).
Nightwing says he filled in for Bruce while Bruce was "away." There is room for Bruce to have gone "away" without it fallowing the events of RIP and the Crisis as we know it. I assume that largely all the major events still took place one way or another, but the how and why of it was what we don't know. If Batman's life was a book the titles of each chapter would still be the same in the New 52, but the content of each chapter would be different. It's like the new season of Fringe. Peter was shunted out of existence which changed both realities... but most of the major stuff still seems to have happened. Olivia was still kidnapped by the other side, and she still managed to escape somehow... but we don't have any idea how, we just know that alt Broyles survived in this new reality.
DiDio clarifying:
"For those in crisis over Crisis, let me clarify. The topic of Crisis was much discussed among the editors and talent working on The New 52. With so many characters and histories restarting, major events like Crisis are harder to place when they work for some and not for others. (that was one of the problems coming out of the original Crisis). While we are starting aprx five years into our heroes’ lives, we are focused on the characters present and future, and past histories will be revealed as the stories dictate. Yes, there have been “crisis” in our characters lives, but they aren’t exactly the Crisis you read before, they can’t be. Now, what this means for characters seen and unseen…… well, that’s the fun of The New 52, infinite stories, infinite possibilities, with the best yet to come. Thanks, as always for your interest and enthusiasm in The New 52. DD
P.S. that’s the last time I try and answer a Facebook question before rushing out for dinner. 🙂"

It’s something I’ve been hearing from a number of retailers, but it seems to have momentum now. As a result of the sellouts, the second printings and the availability of day-and-date digital purchases for those whose shops had no print copies of the first issues available, I understand that it is quite possible that, in a reversal of usual practice, orders for DC comic books in October, pretty much across the board, may be increased on initial orders from September. For large launches, publishers can usually expect retailers to order around 50-60% of their issue one orders for the subsequent issue, in the knowledge that speculators, the curious, those who didn’t like the comic and those who are now waiting for a collection won’t return. It’s why a second issue can be rarer and more valuable than that the first and it’s built into sales expectations. But in this case, the opposite is happening.
Returnability is also a helpful factor, retailers have been able to order high in the knowledge that for a relatively small fee, the comics can be returned to DC. Of course, this didn’t stop many of the books vanishing from the shelves.
Nevertheless the implication is that, just as DC are now expected to take the market share top spot away from Marvel in September, so they may well keep it in October…The only one they've "stole" anything from is Marvel, at least at my store. My #2 and #3 DC numbers are 3x our Marvel numbers. I don't see how DC can't stay on top, even if they lose half their sales.

Hopefully the quality of the books stays high to justify those sales. I finally got around to reading Teen Titans today and it's alleviated all my worries about Tim's future.Although the best relaunched book this year is still Ultimate Spider-man. Miles Morales mum is a babe.
Captain America is cool too, but I guess Brubaker is not going to be news until he leaves.
I also liked Ghost Busters.
