What is your proof, though? Unless the rating will go down (Which I'm sure it will after time), TDKR is becoming more accepted than the Avengers. I've seen a LOT of mixed reactions to Avengers as well. At first, people were saying it's the best super-hero film, but now the dust is settling and the rating has gone down.

The average rating is the same with TDKR, though. I mostly look at the IMDB rating, since it counts most of the users ratings. Nolan already has 3 movies in the top 15.
But serious you think looking at one media outlet is the way to go when selecting which had more positive reviews after opening weekend?
Also I think on average the Avengers ratings were higher after the first weekend than what they are now.
Across multiple outlets of media from what I've seen the reviews and general reception TDKR has been way more mixed than that of the Avengers which could help explain why TDKR didn't perform as well as people wanted.
It could also be a mixture of things, but the point remains for some reason TDKR didn't do that well opening weekend compared to the Avengers and blaming it all on the shooting is probably not reasonable considering there could be a number of different factors.
Of course TDKR could make a comeback next weekend considering not a lot of new movies are coming out. At least not big name ones.

I'm not sure how you can seriously believe the shooting didn't have an effect on the numbers... Furthermore, WB pulled all commercials and interviews for TDKR that's certainly not going to help on the sales department.
Because I'm pragmatic enough to know how these things work?
Pulling commercials is just prudent business practice, and at this point they aren't needed... the movie and the shooting are all anyone is talking about.

I think Newjak's point is that the TDKR has been getting more of a mixed reaction than that of the Avengers, which in the general sense, is true. Both movies had their critics and outright haters, but TDKR has had several people claim it's not as good as TDK (due to Ledger's Joker) or the "weakest" of the trilogy. Considering the trilogy itself is very good, it's still a positive review.Generally, yes, The Dark Knight Rises is viewed as an very good to excellent film, but it spawned more differing opinions than the Avengers did in terms of how good.

Plus a slew of other things like delaying Baman Inc and taking out Gangster Squad trailer. Not to mention a slew of billboards and TV Spots. The shooting DID have an impact both on sales and other miscellaneous things.

Yeah the rest of the summer is pretty dead.
I don't expect Total Recall, or Bourne to blow up the box office. Maybe Paranorman will be a surprise hit... but I'm not expecting much until Expendables 2.

Again, what are you basing this off of? Some sites has TDKR higher and some sites have Avengers higher.

Phantom Menace was getting good buzz and word of mouth before, and the week after it released. It was only after people thought about it and starting seeing it a second time, did people start releasing it was mediocre, because they all convinced themselves they would like it before they even watched it.
Lets see what TDKR reviews look like a few months from now.

IMDB is probably the best judgement for fan reactions IMO, due merely to the shear volume of reviews they receive. Meanwhile, RT is probably the best site for critical reception although metacritic isn't that bad either.
But yeah, while the shooting undoubtedly had an effect on TDKR sales, there was literally no way that it would have matched the Avengers even if it didn't take place. After all, the Avengers had a wider audience, a shorter run time, and 3D ticket sales to boost it.
Actually it's pretty common for TDKR to get better reviews after the second time watching it. The buzz has worn off and they can be a better judge for the film. Have seen this opinion on many boards. It's a Nolan movie, I don't see it dipping below 15 on IMDB. While Avengers will probably be around 50-55.
Bale is such a class act!

I try not to look at the ratings of on IMDB especially for TDKR. I was on the boards and BUNCHES of people had admitted to giving it 10/10 and they haven't even seen it yet while others are giving it 1/10 because of all of the 10/10 ratings that are being given without it being seen.
As for the 3D tickets I believe they said without 3D sales it would have reached 175Mil. My plan was to judge how close the two movies were based on that number. Granted I think that the shooting may have had some small sway on the numbers but Idk if it would have done much more then that. I think they may have tied....give or take a little from either movie. It would have needed only 15mil more for a tied box office. 15 million dollars worth of tickets would have been a lot of entire showings not being played.
