Word of mouth is mixed for TDKR. Even I couldn't help but feel disappointed when I saw it the first time. (Was expecting this to be the best of the trilogy for some reason). But I enjoyed it more the second time tbh.
Also I don't know about everywhere else but when I saw it first time people were walking out before the movie even finished.
But yeah after the mega huge success of Avengers this was never going to match it's box-office.
No 3d sales, much longer movie and much less marketable to kids.
Kids were taking their families to watch Avengers again and again. I don't see them doing that for TDKR. They'll find it hard enough to sit through the first time given the length of the movie.
Still it's made the record for 2d movies, and yes the shooting definitely had a negative impact on OW at least.
So, like I said earlier the real question is TDKR vs TASM. TDKR only did 80 mil at the Foreign Box Office, where as TASM did roughly 200 in the same time frame. The Dark Knight Rises will win the domestic box office, Spider-man will take the international, but when all is said in done which film will have the higher combined total?

Nah. It won't be too difficult for TDKR to make a Billion or there abouts in world wide ticket sales.
Whilst TASM will struggle to make/pass 800mill Imo.
But yes it may be a closer comparison than TDKR vs Avengers.
This is a 76 percent drop from last Friday, and Deadline is reporting that the box office in general is looking 30 percent down from this time last year. NRG is reporting that 20 to 25 percent of the domestic moviegoing audience is hesitant to go to a theater, due to the Aurora shooting last week.
This sucks. 🙁

No, it's because it was over hyped, and not as good as TDK... you fanboys, maybe you should actually read. it's not well reviewed, people aren't seeing it like 3 times like they saw TDK
Was anyone dissapointed in the fighting scenes? Almost no action in the batman fighting scenes. No gadgets period. I know this is batman but it was a little to dismal for me. It was still a good movie though, i just prefered the avengers much more. Non stop action the audience was laughing and cheering the whole time during the avengers. It was silent during the entire batman movie. And after the movie on opening night no one clapped. Very wierd night indeed.

In what world is 87% on RT and a 9 on IMDB "not well reviewed"?Anyway, there was a very large jump from Friday to Saturday which suggest that the lower numbers was caused by the Olympics Opening Ceremony.
In the same world that put the Dark Knight at a staggering 94% on RT, above the Avenger's 92%. TDK also had the most recognizable villain of Batman/comics with the best casting. It didn't hurt them that it was one of said actor's last movies. TDKR is not on the same level as the TDK in terms of story and appeal.
