^ It's not about the movie being bad. It's just too soon for a reboot, and there's not gonna be interest for that in the same year as Avengers and TDKR.S3 actually made shit loads of money, because the interest for Spidey was still there at the time.

not really, no he isn't .. with only two weeks to do damage this will not make a lot.. i am only predicting for this anywhere between $300 and $400 million worldwide.. it certainly looks good, but i don't think this will have long lasting legs like the avengers and tdkr will

Like what? There was nothing that stood out.

Except he did; even Octavius commented on how Connor's called him "brilliant but lazy".
Yeah so what? How does having his professor call him brilliant but lazy mean anything. He wasn't shown to do anything amazing with his intellect.
Even the old 70's Live action Spiderman seemed smarter. He even made spider tracers. Ramai's one didn't even do that much with his "brilliant" intellect.

When did I say it wouldn't make 500m?
But 500m will be considered a failure for Spidey. Just like 400m was considered a failure for Superman Returns.

I meant in comparison to previous Spidey films.

lol. The lowest grossing Spidey movie is $780m... some of the Harry Potter and Twilight movies are failures and didn't have fan interest when compared to the Spider-man trilogy. I dunno where you're getting your info or who you think it will be considered a failure to, but if this movie makes $500m+, I'm sure Marvel will be happy about it.

Why do you think Superman Returns was considered a failure? When a movie expecting a Billion makes half a Billion, people taking the profits are not happy.
Like you said the lowest Spidey previously was 780m. And that was what, 8 years ago? So prob about 900mill in today's terms.
Yeah Marvel will not be happy at all with Sony if this only makes $500m.

Various quips towards the villains. Humor is subjective though.
How does a guy who's considered to be highly intelligent calling you "brilliant" not count for anything towards your own intelligence? Octavius even mentions his intellect in praise at one point, iirc.
Seems you're stuck on the web-shooter thing.

Also, the other Spidey movies made a crap load of money because it was the first time Spidey had been bought to the big screen. Super hero movies are commonplace now... if Thor was released ten years ago, it would have made $1b instead of the $450m it did bring in.
oh and btw, $500m would put it in the top 100 grossing films of all time, so yeah...

It just doesn't satisfy me him just being called clever without making use of that intellect as a superhero.

Budget is said to be about $220mil for this, so if it breaks 500mil (it will surpass this), that's a commercial success.

exactly, i dunno where this guy is coming from.
First of all 220 mill is a HUGE budget. They wouldn't spend that much unless they were expecting serious results. If they don't get it, someone will be fired.
What your both missing is that yes $500m would be a great result for B-List heroes like Thor or Captain America. But for Spiderman, whose previous movies all made close to a Billion each?? For Marvel's previously most successful financial asset (by far)??
For him 500m will not be considered a success. Not by a long shot.

is that before or after the $100 million or so Sony will spend to market?
That's the claimed budget thus far, not sure if that includes or doesn't include marketing, but considering we're about 2 months away from release, it's probably close to what it will cost in full.

Doubling+ your money would be considered a commercial success, granted, not a massively epic success like Titanic, but still a success.
Were are you getting your info that is this reboot doesn't make close "to a billion" and isn't on par with Raimi's films it will be considered a flop and someone "will be fired"? Share your source(s).
