Gordon was the hero in this movie and Alfred should have slapped Brucie's pansy ass around the Batcave and told him to do his job properly.Nolan should be ashamed of himself. Well....it's not like he didn't know his limits, and it shows. But they offered him a crap load of money.
BatFacts 101:
Spoiler:
-Don't listen to Alfred when he supplies important data on your superior enemy.-To fix a broken back all you need to do is hit the vertebrae back in.
-And once the back is broken tie a rope around your chest and fall from a 10 story drop.
-Don't bring tranquilizer batarangs to a Bane fight. Bring some smoke bombs.
-When performing a rescue of Gotham spend hours pouring gasoline in the shape of a bat on a bridge side. then wait for thugs to bring your friends out to execute them.....and hope one of them has a flare handy.
-Instead of using your BatCopter to fly a nuke out of the city as fast as you can. Just stand there and listen to the villain in her dying breaths give an obvious long winded speech in an obvious attempt to deter you.
-And once that's over why not make out with Catwoman. You a few minutes why not?
-When escaping a foreign prison. Have a haircut and manicure to look your best before retaking the city.
-And when you sacrifice yourself. Make sure you shag your new girlfriend for a few months before making yourself known to a your frail guilt ridden father figure in a foreign restaurant for the sake dramatic climax.
OK Just seen this movie on Imax.
Meant to go in August.
Work got in the way.
I've read through most of this discussion and this post from about page 27 has a powerful point.
Spoiler Alert:
Bruce Wayne not listening to Alfred giving him and the viewer good solid information.
after he'd done the detective work off-screen.
Sheesh.
And Yes. This movie sucked hard for Mythos.
TDK I saw three times in a row at the cinemas.
It got Bruce Wayne Perfectly.
This film; ugh.
I'm not sure what they were trying to do.
Seriously it was one thing after another. Batman not listening to alfred telling him right off the bat, about bane. As for the worlds greatest detective actually looking at, and touching the scar tissue on Miranda Tate's back and that great brain of his not firing fireworks... or a single bright spark at least.
Not good enough.
Like Jim Gordon says: "Son when you're a detective you don't believe in coincidences."
If batman isn't a detective what the hell is he? Michael Caine's character Alfred spells it out to him; Gotham needs your skills and your intelligence. But we see almost none of this in TDKR. What the hell is the point of writing/ directing a Goddamn Batman Movie if 99% of the time you're going to have him run around with his brain asleep. And when he does think, mostly thinking with his dick.
As for Catwoman.. Nolans characterisation left me cold. It took her long enough to reclaim her humanity.
Bane you can get: having absolutely no respect for anything as he's been to hell and back (and has the face, or whats left of it to prove it) AND he tells us virtually every chance he can get, in the first part of the film He is The LOS
Talia: Well written character. The plot twist is there, But you can definitely see why and how it is she'd turn out to be a monster.
But Catwoman has no reason to be killing, and stabbing and shooting and maiming people for lulz.
I can accept Bane and Talia and the Lifers in Blackgate's reasons for being homicidal maniacs.
But with catwoman the lack of exposition for her motivations in happily stealing from and casually ruining people financially
Grates
If you're going to have your moral champion (Wayne) essentially develop an instant liking for someone, not to bring them in or tip off Jim Gordon as a director/ screenwriter, you have got to establish for the audience
at least 1 pet the dog moment early on.
by the time we got to that scene with the apple and the kid and before that with the family picture lying smashed on the floor she picks up and speaks a couple of lines to the viewer
I was past caring for the character or her motivations.
