For my Negima update, so far I've made it into the Kyoto arc and I'm impressed with the loli vampire and middle school samurai. I'm going to keep powering through to see if it really does get any better.

Yea, you'll see more stuff like those two.

Just you wait.

Chapter 197. ONE. NINETY. SEVEN.

I'd say the Gate battle...

ONENINETYSEVEN

Ok, checking 197... I can't figure out what's supposed to be special about it ^^;

No Rakan, no spectacular fight, no great revelations.

Wait a minute.

*Looks up*

Goddammit.

ONE NINETY EIGHT.

Oh yea, 198 is pretty awesome 🙂

1. Bleach
2. Naruto
3. One Piece

Bleach was one hell of a show so it easily takes one. It seems like Kubo is enjoying making up for his faults with this chapter.

Naruto had a crappy beginning but it gradually goes upward in quality and eventually gets an awesome end.

One Piece was just boring and aside from one or two creative things, I just found it dull.

OP was good, nice revelations and the plot moving, I just hope Smoker gives up on following Luffy forever next chapter! Some action in Naruto for a change and luckily we diverted from the boring Uchina brothers plot.

Ranking:
1) Fairy Tail
2) Naruto

Then,
3) Bleach
4) One Piece

This was actually a really good week. FT and Naruto were both pretty darn awesome, and Bleach and OP weren't bad either. Much stronger than last week. OP is building momentum.

1) Naruto - Despite the bullshit I found it to be, this chapter was still pretty sweet and better than the rest.

2) One Piece - Meh, it made me chuckle a bit. Standard One Piece non-action chapter

3) Bleach - How can Kubo spend 18 pages and still barely move the plot along or have the characters do anything? He is the Master of Pointless Dicking Around. It is him.

1. Bleach
2. Naruto

I don't know. A lot happen in Bleach but it felt very quick. But it really got me hyped for these battles. Naruto opened well with Itachi's foreshadowing of how the battle between Naruto and Sasuke will end. The kage speech seemed a bit dull though, and Madara wanting to break their will seemed a bit off. But I'm interested to see what this version of Susanoo can do.

I really liked their massive combination jutsu though. And fighting a buncha susano'o clones. Very much a 'we're outmatched but we're going to beat you down anyway' vibe.

They didn't amount to anything though, and to be frank only the last one was somewhat flashy. Personally I prefer abilities with very complex mechanics.

The Gokage assault was pretty awesome. Coming off the crappy fight between the Uchiha and Kabuto, it's pretty awesome to see a lot more teamwork.

I just prefer the weight of Bleach more, mostly because it really does seem cool to me. And you gotta love Rukia. Charging right at the enemy. So stupid. <3

It killed all the clones, took out Madara's arm and leg, and trapped him, forcing him to use his ultimate technique.

Mind, Fairy Tail was still the more awesome ^^

I tried to get into Fair Tail once. It didn't work. Which is particularity odd because I love medieval fantasy. I mean my favorite series are A Song of Ice and Fire, Wheel of Time, and the later parts of Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Then again, Fair Tail doesn't feel like fantasy to me. The atmosphere is far too light. Nope. Farmers should work 18 hours every day, just for a bowl of porridge to share with their family, underaged women should resort to prostitution to feed their little brother, and adventurers should be happy if a farmer will let them work for shelter for the night and a meal. That's fantasy.

It's not medieval, which may be part of it. It's feudal, there's a kingdom, but more like post-reniassance with magic that's common enough for some modern bits.

There are trains and books.

Just because it's magic doesn't mean something has to be medieval, and really, strong magic should kick a setting out of medieval pretty fast (droughts, for example, don't matter as much when you have water mages, and spells and items can help a lot in building infrastructure). I mean, not all fantasy is medieval fantasy.

Magic just feels out of place in more modern settings. Especially when systemized and widely distributed. On top of that it's far too casual for my taste in Fairy Tail.

Like Harry Potter or Harry Dresden?

Especially when systemized and widely distributed.

You mean like it is in Naruto?

Like Slayers? Or Harry Potter again? Or several D&D worlds? (Eberron, Planescape, Spelljammer)

And mind you in FT, it's only that easy among the big guild mages.

Also I'll note that the specific level of misery in medieval fantasy is really only present in a few of even the medieval fantasy ones, it's not exactly a universal norm. LotR, many of it's imitators, and most D&D worlds don't go in for that kind of thing.
