Then I think we've found our pitch for Senator Anon.

Nice catch guys! We're well on our way to tracking Lennah down now.

-

"Did Lennah have any hobbies or interests he spoke to you about, Elzair?"

"... you know, I have no idea what he enjoyed," says Elzair. "He's an odd man."

-

"Ah!" says the Senator. "You think this Lennah person was funding Kuylen's operation in the early days? The operation that led to the incursions by the Red Lance pirates, Faylar's assault on the Republican government and Damagran and culminated in the massacre on Malastare?"

He stands up.

"Thank you, ladies and gentlemen," he says. "I think the Senate ought to be informed of this."

Well finally 🙂 we got there.

Interesting. A piece of the Kuylen puzzle filled in!

Just to back things up, Jelena should ask if Lennah or his company designed any platform-based planetary mining lasers, or if they deal with any companies that sell them (or did at the time Kuylen got hold of one). Though I think it belonged to the Red Lance...

Well you are not actually sure if that is so, but it IS a reasonable suspicion from you.

As it happens... yes, Lennah's company worked with all sorts of excavation equipment, as Lennah himself has an archaeological interest.

You very much doubt Kuylen ever told him about Avalar, but it is interesting.

I think Lennah would have tried to get a piece of the action if Kuylen told him about one of the largest Sith archaeological finds in recent history.

Too much of a coincidence though. I am glad we came to that conclusion (Roan and Vera).

We'll let the Senator know about that too.

Wentar smiles. "It is starting to look that way. What about things he didn't enjoy doing, other than being around people that is."

Well, the next morning, the Senator makes a speech in the House about the way the galactic comms network can be used to hide illicit traffic- drawing on the example of a current Jedi investigation into the funding of the infamous terrorist Larios Kuylen- and how companies hiding behind communication privacy laws are hampering such investigations. If corporations do not seem capable of being reasonable about access to their logs when criminal activity is suspected, then perhaps new legislation should be brought in compelling companies to route all comms through official Republican relays that are open to Senatorial or Jedi perusal at all times, with the costs of that network being met by a new tax on the companies themselves...

By noon, you find all kinds of companies are suddenly being very reasonable indeed to requests from you guys to access comms information.

Renegades, you may choose now to despair over a political system that seems to work on threats more than laws and a justice system which only seems the function if you know the right people.

(Though you had better despair about real life as well in the first count as plenty of political moves are about threatening to do things like laws, taxes or even just making things public merely to force people to shift position or compromise)

Well, she'll mention one other thing she knows- he hated droids. Computers he loved, but anything with an AI unnerved him. It's why he had human secretaries like herself at all; a lot of corporate guys use droids for that work.

So he probably has automated defenses and computerized traps instead of battle droids for his protection.

And oddly enough, Xeth probably doesn't feel too badly about threats being the effective way to get the bloated Senate and companies to do what they want. He wishes it weren't that way, obviously, but it is and at least there's a method.

That being said, how is the search going now that the companies are more willing to let us look at their comms?

You can request whatever access you like- but I need you to nominate someone to make the skill roll, adding in any resources you find are appropriate.

If Jelena is getting the +1 to Intelligence from the Scholar's template, she is just as good if not better than Andro and Denzral with Fix-It. She is happy to make the roll!

Would an astromech help at all? Xeth and Denzral both have theirs. Otherwise I don't think we have anything that will help besides what the Senator has already given us.

For someone of Vera's status and age, has the Senate always been this way? Or is this just a recent thing that threats need to be thrown around before anything gets done?

Vera-Kin despairs over that in quiet.

"At least we got what we needed," Vera-Kin says. "It certainly wouldn't be right if we actually had access to all those things. No matter what it turned up."

"Thank you, Senator Anon," Vera-Kin will tell the Senator. "You have been a great help to our investigation."

Been that way for as you as you've known anything about it.

Wentar's unhappy about it, but at this point in his career, sadly, not surprised.

"It's things like that that are why I dislike the Senate so much." Is all he says over that matter.

-

That issue over Lennah hating droids. Perhaps it changes our opinion of hutt vs trade feds as his suppliers?

An Astromech will help sort the vast amount of information, but not with the access roll.

Going for it, Jelena?

Yes, I will make the attempt.

Denzral is happy to assist Jelena.

neat! Looks like this is going to work out!

Ok! Jelena's gone for it, and she's followed the bounced signal around dozens of satellite networks in many different star systems. It's very confused to find a starting point, but it does greatly limit the area where he could be working from.

When we add to that all the other things you have - isolated, unpopulated, not cold etc- you end up with a list of six planets.

Do you have any final technique you wish to use to narrow it down?
