So Cap is now officially as popular around the world as Superman and Thor - and based on numbers, apparently more so than Wolverine and the X-Men. 😄
Cap is just as bankable in theaters as Superman and Thor. I'm not sure he's as recognizable or as popular though. I think Superman, Batman, and Spiderman are still more recognizable by the world population, but recognizeability (or even popularity) doesn't mean box office success. I'm sure Barbie is more recognizable and popular than Captain America. That does not mean people want to see a movie about Barbie.

The figures show he's actually more popular than Thor and Superman. The X-Men have never been in league with the heavy hitters of the big screen. I still blame their Wolverine Wanking formula. But we'll see what happens later this month with DOFP.
The X-Men have the potential. Before the Avengers movies, most people knew who the X-Men were due to the 90s cartoon and X-Men evolution. The problem with X-Men 1-3 was that they were all really boring. The plots were dumb and the fight scenes sucked. Magneto was toned down compared to the cartoons, there was no Apocalypse, and no Sentinels. Had Marvel been in charge, the X-Men would be making Avenger's dollars at this point. The Sentinels would be in either the first or second movie, instead of 7th installment of the franchise. Marvel draws inspiring from multiple story lines to make a film. Fox just make stuff up, except for Days of Future Past and the upcoming Age of Apocalypse. Fox has finally learned. tsk tsk.
