I think you're confusing him with Starkiller, who easily pulled an ISD out of orbit in a non-canon promo, whereas in the actual game and novel he was just barely able to alter its trajectory as it was crashing.
^^ This.
I also went back and confirmed that it was Ben that learned flow-walking. Luke, so far as I can tell, has never touched the ability.
some people brought up the possible issue of the champion using the same character again 1) their strategies are pretty much out in the open, and 2) if they pick the best character in the bracket nobody will want to fight them; stagnating the battlezones. at least that's what i gathered
now, if the champs and their opponents have to pick new characters it will force diversity and showcase their talent at debating. in the case of this match, luke and shift would be off limits for a period of time or completely

Nah, to make it fair there could be a number one contender match, that way everyone has exposure before championship matches.Makes it harder to choose someone just to beat the specific champion character.
that's a good idea, except......there is already a dearth of people interested in taking part in these. a #1 contender match means we need even MORE people... 😬

Suppose it could only apply if there are multiple challengers... only one challenger means automatic championship match.I'm getting more and more interested in this format... but what I liked Most was the blind entry no prep aspect, guess that can't happen in a title defence match though. 🙁
i felt the same way. i agree there is a large advantage to the challenger as well. i first thought the champ was the "debater" and as a result the champ could choose whoever he wanted (could be the same character if he chose) to use. turns out the champ is the "character" though and that complicates things....

If it gets changed, I'd be fine. It's not like we don't know others to use at any given power level. Much as I like Luke - and I think he whups the crap out of many in his tier - it's only a matter of time before any of us runs into someone that counters our character too well.
I honestly like the challenge a bit. Makes multiple defenses that much more impressive, and also changes draft strategy. I picked Luke because he's rounded enough to conceivably hold the title for a while. If this were a team or amalgamation bracket tourney, he wouldn't be as valuable on many teams because there you're looking for "extremes" more often instead of diverse power sets (like Northstar, for example, who adds a ton to a team/amalgamation but doesn't have a ton of tricks outside of speed for a 1v1 tourney...he'd be easier to counter in the draft room).
Any other potential picks I've considered have also accounted for that. Are they powerful enough to win? Then: are they diverse enough to hold the title? And there's a risk picking more niche characters. I actually enjoy that element of drafting.
i know it sounds like i'm complaining about the way it's set up, but i'm really not. i think the other way would be better (champ is debater who can decide whether to use the same character or not), but everyone is under the same rules and we all know the rules going in. so....yeah. who wants to challenge me and for which belt? 😄
here is a short list of people i would enjoy bz'ing at one level or another:
smurph (owe him one.... heh)
digi (owe him one too.... heh)
galan (among the best on here and a personal compadre...)
bw (come to think of it i owe HIM too. hrm.)
scoob (a dream match up all the fans have been clamoring for for years.... ok, maybe I'M the only one clamoring for it...)
bran (cuz not sure how many people know it but bran would rate among my top 1-2 debaters on the forum)
odg (cuz he's smart AND crusty...)
mindset (who DOESN'T like to debate with mindset???)
basilisk (i really like that guy's style. smart, fair and keeps his cool. seems like a great guy to debate against)
jake (see basilisk)
id (sarcastic bastard who knows his shite and can take some and give it back without getting his feathers ruffled by tourney talk....)
km (also among the best debaters round here)
srank (cuz i like srank and like id gives as good as he gets)
and there are others that i would welcome bz'ing. so, if anyone is up for a challenge, let a brother know. i'll be your huckleberry. 🙂

I think the bigger question is who do YOU want to challenge and for what belt?
Champs don't do the challenging around here . They simply sit pretty until somebody challenges them. Once challenged they have a certain amount of time to defend or they will be stripped of their title .
Now, you don't have to challenge a champ directly you can also state that you wish to challenge for any tier with no champ yet and hope that someone accepts.
Guys, this is not a popularity contest . It's first come first serve ! Feel free to post your intentions on here fast and clear .
I would like to congratulate Digi and Leo on an epic match up in which I was hard pressed to pick out a clear winner. Both of you know your stuff !
Jake, marvelous job running things and congrats because I now name you permanently the dude who runs things in my absence.
I'd like to also thank galan, bw, Gecko, and all who sacrifice their time to judge these matches.
Keep up the good work all !
Edit: I'm not for changing any rules , but if anything should become a problem and I'm not around I trust jake to make the proper decision.
