For me the first Batman/Bane fight killed anything we saw in the Avengers, because it was actually really intense and dramatic. Would have been better if you didn't already know that

the avengers appealed to a variety of people. The Dk appeals to a certain group of people that go and see the same movie over and over and over and over again. Marvel is plain more succesful then D.C. in hollywood. All D.C. fans have to look forward to is batman. They also have batman. Btw did i mention batman, and also batman. D.C fans unfortunatly have to wait years for anything to come out =(. DKT was good but i think it was geared for a younger generation. I have heard mixed results about batman at best. I have heard absolutly nothing negative about the avengers. THe avengers felt like a true comic book movie. TDK felt like a lower budget, not alot of action honestly and absolutly NO gadgets batman flick. Micheal keatons batman had much more action in it. This version was more like a dark drama then a comic book movie. It was still a good movie but i hope in the future we get away from the crappy military vehicals and start to follow a more comic book like persona.

For me personally DK was like prometheus. Both good movies they just didnt remind me of the comic book version of batman or the original aliens.

"Mixed results at best"? How is a 8.8 on IMDB, 82 on metacritic, and 94% on RT mixed results? All of those are superior to what TA got. Now, I'm not saying that makes the film superior to TA, but clearly TDK did not have "mixed results at best".

The only mixed results are on whether people think it's better than the Dark Knight or not. Its about how great it is, not whether its great, cuz it is.

Im fairly certain that at this point and time The Avengers had a 9.2% on IMDB iirc and now that it has nearly ran its course it is at 8.7%. As for metacritic i have no idea and on RT The Avengers currently has a 92%...I am unsure what it had at this stage in it's release though.

anyways I won't say TDKR necessarily has more mixed reviews but I can say I have seen more negative comments then I have for the avengers but that certainly can not speak for everyone. Either way They are both the top of there respective genres.

Nah, I was talking about The Dark Knight not Rises and I assume that is what the guy I was responding to was talking about as well due to the thread and his use of DK rather than DKR. Regardless, TDKR also has great reception and it is certainly on par with TA in that regard.

ahh I get the two confused far to easily in conversation due to many people simply dropping the rises when speaking of it.

Not to take away from Ledger's performance, but I just noticed something when watching the Digitally remastered version of Fight Club:

Brad Pitt's crazy man laugh, when getting beaten up by the bar owner, felt awfully similiar to Joker's laugh at Batman beating The Joker in The Dark Knight.

Not that I am against using roles as inspiration but it just seemed too similar to be a coincidence. I revived this thread because I don't want this discussion in the comic book areas and also because it relates more to another movie, Fight Club, that does not fit in that forum.

As to the thread Avengers hands down. Batman while good is overrated. Avengers is at the top of the mountain.

The Dark Knight is a superior story with superior characters, by leaps and bounds. But The Avengers is a more entertaining film. For pure, energetic, funny, fun, excitement kind of entertainment, Dark Knight doesn't hold a candle to Avengers. But I'll take the more nuanced, complex, grittier, dirtier, Dark Knight for its story, pacing, character development, and acting performances (Katie Holmes aside).

It feels unfair though. They're both comic book movies, but the style, direction, writing, execution, effects, everything seem immensely different in both films. It really is comparing apples to oranges.

I noticed the similarity too. I always felt that the Joker's interrogation scene was very reminiscent of the restaurant scene in Heat. Pacino especially feels very Joker-esque in his speech patterns and body language.

Avengers is more entertaining.

I also think Avengers handled the individual characters better. Everyone was important and had screen time. There was no favorites and it felt like the movie was about the entire team. TDK should have been called The Joker. Batman felt like a secondary character, and Two Face was a throw away/plot device for TDKR.

I also thought the Batman and Bane fight was the second best action scene in TDK series. The first IMO is Batmans first confrontation with Joker in TDK where he almost runs him over. The Bane scene didn't hold a candle to any of the action in Avengers, but the Joker scene was almost on the same level.

TDK had a better story and better villains though. Ras' and Joker are some of he best villains I've seen in comic book movies, up there with Goblin and Doc Ock. Loki was at his best in Thor, and existed in Avengers purely to get stomped by everyone. TDKR had weak story, unlike the first two.
