Yeah he did. If Long didn't intervene, McClane would have died. If you claim Tony saved Jack's life, then by that same token Long saved McClanes, and having to be saved by wimpy b!tch Justin Long is wayyyyyy more pathetic than being saved by an uber-badass like Tony Almeida (and if you want to know why he's so badass, watch season 7 🙂 ).

Bauer was stuck in a warehouse, out of ammo and goons where closing it; Bauer called Tony on the phone and Tony came in to save and extract(ie run away) his soon-to-be-dead ass and the person Bauer was supposed to be protecting. This was pre season 7 of 24.
Let's not also forget that Bauer was also saved from actual death when he flat-lined and needed someone to hit his reset button. McClane's still playing on his first token.

Because Tony literally came in to the rescue after Bauer called him for a rescue. If Bauer was going to "pistol whip" a bunch of well armed men flanking him (hahaaahahahahhaahaaa, no), he wouldn't have desperately called out an S.O.S.
That's far different than someone making a distraction and allowing 'you' to then continue kicking ass. eg Like the help Bauer had in taking out the helicopter.
When McClane dies and needs someone to give him a SECOND CHANCE, you might have a point. Maybe you'll get your much needed wish in DH5, but I doubt it.
