And screw critics! Critics praised IM3 and Superman Returns so I largely ignore them.

Okay.

You still haven't really made a case for why GOTG can't be better than the Avengers.

Nor have you argued why GOTG has hype working for it when Avengers had pr-budget, famous actors, buildup movies and a popular director.

Avengers is the benchmark for a great superhero movie. That's why every time a new one is out people compare it to the Avengers, and if they like it they initially say it's better than Avengers. Happened with IM3, MOS and Cap2.

So excuse me for getting a little irritated every time people say that now.

Could it be better than Avengers? Sure, that's not impossible, just very improbable. But from the trailers I doubt it's my kind of movie, and seriously doubt my enjoyment of it would even come close to my enjoyment of Avengers.

Hype for GOTG is greater than hype for Avengers RIGHT NOW. As in when Avengers was released 2 years ago and GOTG was just released today/yesterday.

You're getting mad because people are comparing it to the movie that you consider to be the benchmark? If it is the benchmark superhero-movie then obviously people are going to compare it to that.

A movie that has been out several years doesn't have any 'hype'.

The hype around avengers' release was greater than the hype around GOTG.

GOTG is still getting better reviews.

Man of Steel was better than Avengers.

As mentioned this film is as good as Avengers and Captain America WS. Whats amazing is they all accomplish what they set out to do in different ways.

The impressive thing about GotG is that they pull off getting the audience to understand the Marvel concepts of Infinity Gems, Celestials, Alien races, genetically engineered/altered species (Rocket/Nebula etc) and pull the 5 members together seamlessly without any origin films behind them and in a 2hour period. What bridges the gap is humor.

This film was to me a successful mix of the best of Star Wars and Hellboy. Great flick.

That's exactly what I said.

Exactly. Why are you repeating my points.

You keep saying this like it's supposed to prove something. Avengers hype when it was released compared with GOTG hype now has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

You have to wait for the reviews to build up before comparing it to Avengers. But yes it is getting great reviews. But then that's expected considering even IM3 got rave reviews.

In your opinion. Not in the majority opinion.

But that explains why it's so easy for you to put new superhero movies above Avengers. You don't see Avengers as the best superhero movie of all time (one one of the best). But even you realize that Avengers IS the benchmark for a great superhero movie.

Seems like Darth is just hatin on GOTG for sake of it.

As it stands, DP, the majority opinion is that Guardians of the Galaxy, Dark Knight and Batman Begins are better than the Avengers.

Yup.

Do NOT judge this movie based on trailers. I saw it last night, and it was amazing. It was serious at the right moments and funny at the right moments.

As much as I loved Avengers and idolize joss whedon, GOTG is just as good if not better than Avengers. It's better than Cap 2 imo

Saw it last night. Was very good, but IMO, not better than Avengers.

I thought Lee Pace did a great job with what he was given as Ronan, but they could've done much more with his character. Wish we would've gotten a little more about him, his motivations etc...I still don't know why he was so upset with the Xandarians...something about a peace treaty. Also would've liked to see him as more of a threat especially towards the end.

As mentioned, Groot and Rocket steal the show. Both look and sound fantastic. Bradley Coopers voice is unrecognizable in the best way, while Diesel's voice is as trademark and perfect as ever. Drax is funny and looks cool. Pratt as Quill does a good job on par with Hemsworth as Thor but not quite as good as Downey/Evans.

I thought Gamora was too soft. She needed to be a little harder and less sentimental. Probably my least favorite of the cast.

Overall, the pacing and action are good, characters are great, plot is ok. 10 more minutes to flesh out some character motivations, action sequences and story lines would've made this film much better.

I'd give it 8/10.

The Xandarians were at war with the Kree for a thousand years and were responsible for killing Ronan's dad sometime in the war.

Ah, ok...thanks.

Great accessment. Totally agree. This film could have actually used at least another 1/2 hour to flesh out the characters even more. Still great though.

LOL So complaining about people jumping to say it's better than Avengers is hating on the movie?

.

LOL Where are you getting this majority figure for GOTG from when most people haven't even seen it yet. Your also forgetting about the whole hype thing we've spent a page arguing about.

Really? Well I always said that if everyone raves about it then I'll defo go check it out. So I will this weekend.

Also

Spoiler:
I didn't particularly like the way they handled Thanos. His first introduction to the MCU should have been menacing and terrifying. Also I agree, Gamora was a little underwhelming

Other than those 2 complaints, perfect movie. Chris Pratt played Starlord nearly at Downey level. He inhabited that role.

Guys save the arguing. People are entitled to their opinions on the movie whether they think it is better than another movie is for them to decide.

I'm definitely looking forward to this movie seeing it on Sunday.

Remember how the IM3 trailer looked darker and more serious, while it turned out silly.

GOTG trailer looks silly and childish, but the movie is actually very adult in its comedy. Well paced, well made and the 80s music plays an important role.

Michael Rooker as Yondu was awesome too btw

While I don't agree with Darth's opinion on Guardians, it's funny that your opinion somehow is the same thing as a "majority opinion". Please, don't speak for others on the matter.

My opinion as well. Great movie, REALLY fun to watch, but I still Think Avengers and Cap: Winter Soldier are better movies.
