"He thinks that survival instinct and a strong leader can overrule that tendency," Vash says. "I'm not certain about the leader part, but survival? At least for now, it works."

"If survival instinct were enough, then there wouldn't be the amount of in-fighting amongst Dark Siders as there has been in the past," Rianna says. "No, I suspect I know how Rand will try and lead..."

"How would that be?" Vash asks.

"He'll either find something to keep each of our interests...or more likely, he'll try and use fear."

"Are you afraid of him?" Vash asks.

"What do you think?" Rianna snaps back, moodily.

"He's not THAT scary..." Vash contests. "He's just strong in the Force and knows how to manipulate people."

"And that's not enough? Have you ever actually faced him yourself?"

Vash nods.

"And just how well did that go?"

Vash chuckles to himself.

"Do you really want to know?" Vash asks. "Or do you just want to mock me for it? I'm not convinced that you actually care."

Rianna just shrugs.

"Believe what you want. I'm about the last person able to mock anyone for coming off poorly in a fight with him."

"That's true," Vash says.

He reveals that he was a bounty hunter for a short time. Rand gathered a few bounties in his time as a notorious Dark Jedi, so Vash pursued him. He confronted him in the Outer Rim, when Rand was running an information gathering mission for the Mecrossans about a potential ally. Vash wrecklessly cut his way into the meeting and actually had no idea that Rand had Jedi training.

As such, the duel played out with Vash initially losing his edge and fleeing. He lured Rand out into the streets, where the duel resumed until local law enforcement showed. It continued over the low rooftops of this particular city; Vash utilized his agility to outpace Rand, but Rand predicted his movements and neutralized the play.

Ultimately, Rand threw Vash through a wall with the Force, then convinced him to surrender and join him.

"And you went along after that?" Rianna says, slightly incredulously. She's also slightly annoyed that, judging by that account, Vash got off better fighting against Rand than any of her times fighting him, though they were rather different circumstances...

"This place is getting boring."

"I had to if I wanted to leave that planet alive," Vash says. "Rand guided me around the patrols and we killed the ones we couldn't avoid. And here I am now, talking to the girl who cut off my arm and is bored of my company..."

"I'm not overly fond of being around people all that much," Rianna replies, a bit sarcastically. "Especially someone who's tried to kill me on more than one occasion."

"I could say the same thing," Vash shoots back.

"I haven't actually tried to kill you, though. You wouldn't be here if I had."

Vash just scoffs at that and mills about the ruined fortress.

You certainly are feeling bored though, since you are not an archaeologist or anything.

"Scoff all you like, but it is true," she says.

"And it is this place I am bored of. There's nothing to find here. I'm not convinced there's anything to find on this planet at all."
